oil pan 4 — Actually, it's about the same amount of time. Elio did five prototypes, Arcimoto did eight. It's the difference in outlook between the corporatist/automotive viewpoint and gamers (fail early, fail often).
In his speechifying today, Mark Frohnmayer said they build them in Eugene partially to prove their process is not geographically dependent. It's replicable elsewhere.
While they don't chase grants like Elio (or whatever that Shreveport facility represented, certainly not a place to build their prototypes.... ahem), they are now one of two electric vehicle manufacturers listed on NASDAQ. They had this shareholder meeting (I believe) on the anniversary of their IPO. For $2.48 I could have sat in.

Since this guy doesn't believe in only using other people's money to fund his ambitions he could actually go some where.
The only time other people's money is plentiful for something like this is when gas prices are high and everyone is losing their minds.
If that's your development and finance model then you will likely have your production line ready just as gas prices drop back down to normal or below normal and then no one cares about fuel efficiency.
Doing an IPO versus begging for money represents 2 totally different schools of thougt. With one usually going somewhere and the other going no where.

Elio with doors for the driver and passenger..?

It'd be neat to see a longer version with doors for the driver and passenger.. It would make it a bit more attractive to the Average American Consumer.
Thank you for sharing this link!

That would be redundant and would raise the basic price! The Elio is not a side by side, it seats two people, Driver up front with one passenger compartment right in back of driver and inline with front seat. Access for passenger is like any two door coupe with back of drivers seat tilted forward to allow room for passenger to get in back! This makes the cabin at least twice as narrow as most comparable econo-boxes & I prefer it that way!

That's answering a 5 year old post there...
In retrospect, Elio did not make the cabin 50% narrower than an ordinary car.
They went the full 100% narrower; and not just the cabin, but all the other parts have 0% of the size of contemporary cars.
You can't even see it anymore. You have to imagine it's there.

Ha! So after spending all that time & money developing their own engine for a low volume niche vehicle, they suddenly realized what a bad idea that was?
Quote:
"Purchasing an OEM's existing powertrain has an enormous impact on the project, it helps both expedite the timeline, and it directly reduces our capital requirement by about $120 million dollars", said Elio Motors CEO, Paul Elio.
