mpg, GPH, volt, fwt (water temp) for me
mpg - obvious
gph - roughly translates with lod and tps and rpm - now that I know it, I can use this instead of all the others
volt - engine off so much, it's critical
water temp - grille block...

Although, these days, I mostly have it on trip mpg. Just keep that ticking up and you're going good. I'd advise you to work on the instant for a while first. But, your newer SG should be able to show instant and average on the gauge screen... that's nice!

I use Pulse & Glide, and try to get my pulses in the 1500-2000 rpm range, with 75%+ load. Then glide, glide, glide. That uses the best BSFC point for the pulse - least fuel for the most power.

MPG -- MPH
FIA -- TPS

MPH - Speedo is inaccurate; VSS accurate per GPS
FIA - Always monitoring intake air temps
TPS / Variable Slot: Throttle position (for me) is often used over MPG, especially in hilly terrain: I pick a TPS and stick with it on certain routes, and with the automatic, hitting that 10-11 reading to essentially bleed-off speed at high FE without compression slowing.

Sometimes in the TPS spot: FWT for cold starts; VLT for engine-off operation...

In the fuel section, theres something called cutoff?

manual shows nothing about this..
I've been through it bacvk and fourth and cant figure it out..

Also the MPG deal seems like a crock of crap.. on the freeway with 16 on TPS and about 18 LOD I cant get away from 22mpg to save my life..

I'm going to fab in a how air intake, got a few ideas kickin around

throttle activated WOT to a flapper for cold air to avoid detionation..
Its in my head, still workin on it

But that realtime MPG, I dont think thats very accurate..

this is with a flat stretch of road, no wind, ect.. seems to be about as usefull as the GM or Chrysler factory stuff in reguards to acuracy for the instant MPG...

Odd.

I have had a SG for over 2 years and it's right on the button every fill. If you unplug it or disconnet the battery all the setting go to default and sometimes they just reset for no reason but that is odd. *Shrug*

I've double checked every setting, its dead on, from engine size to gas tank capasity..

still all there..

hasn't been disconnected since I installed it..

I have changed one mechanical deal on my driveline, i'm going to change it back for an A-B-A setup. maybe I'm getting some binding? I'll explain later if thats the case..

Mine had a rude awakening for me today. I've rarely had the chance to run a whole tank through without disconnecting for travel.

10% Margin of Error. Yup, thought I was getting 38.0 MPG, and the pump showed 34.x The MPG number, I've resolved, is just an arbitrary number and is relative and not absolute.

For me, the MPG readout is a reference.

Ive read other forums where the SG wasn't accurate upto a 20% difference on a prius II..

bummed out that it isnt as good as I thought it to be, but there are lots of other things that are just as good to use for proper instrumentation..

Had a CEL yesterday code 0420.. I reset that instantly while driving

its a slight exhaust leak from the manifold to the exhaust.. 2 of the 3 bolts were cross threaded from the factory, one came out ok, the other snapped and ones fine..
put it back on, the one that came out ok started getting way too tight (1/4 from tightened right) and so basically only one stud is holding anything on..

So I think thats the situation for the 0420..

It only comes on every 3 - 400 miles..

Sounds about right (link).

Bummer it was cross-threaded at the factory. Was it made in Indiana or Texas on a Monday or Friday?

That's inexcusable. Poor build quality from the benchmark: Toyota. IMO, they've dropped in this critical area of consumer confidence.

My brother had a really bad experience with a mid-90's Taco V-6. It blew a head gasket, which took an act of Congress to get repaired under warranty (incorrectly). It happened again. After the final repair, he dumped it for a new Chevy Aveo-5. Satisfied customer for 3 yrs+

NE-ways, when I rent vehicles, the SG offers a decent estimate and feedback device. On my home-ride, the figure is way too optimistic.

To be honest, I've helped family and friends pull trouble codes and diagnose problems with it -- which paid for itself in potential mechanic's fees. Feedback is good, but apparently flawed out of the box for that MPG parameter. The adjustment function should hopefully bring the MPG average into reality.

I don't want to downplay the device -- it's still a critical option for FE improvement, but be aware of calibration.

I havent written it completly off already,
I chalk it up to a learning curve myself

there are features on this that the hand book it came with doesnt cover at all..
the hand book isn't exactly setup very user friendly as well..

A table of contense would NOT hurt SG for sure..

That's for Deceleration Fuel Cutoff - coasting in-gear, some vehicles cut fuel to the injectors. The setting it to adjust the threshold where that is recorded.

Accuracy - I've got a year and over 10,000 miles on mine. I've recorded the actual gallons and back-calculated the un-adjusted gallons for each fill. Once I locked in my offset, it's been +- 1% or so for the whole year.
