Hey jackbauer, it'll be interesting to see how much the coolant heats up. You could measure the losses that way.

Hi all. It's been a while since i've been on the board here, but it looks like a lot of the 500A controller hardware development has wrapped up, mostly software variations now. The 1000A variant looks to be coming along nicely too! Would those of you working on it and using the 4 Paul built say it's still in development, or ready for daily use?

Jack, do you have any plans to publish official schematics and PCB files for your IGBT units, or were you planning to leave it as a modified standard board with the pictures you're posted?

At the minute i'm quite busy so have no plans to do any schematics. I did a video some weeks back of the changes necessary. If more people ask i'll do a diagram.

Ambient air temp today was 18C. Got the cooling system installed and went for a 8 mile run up the motorway (70mph). Peak temperature on the heatsink........ 24C. Returned by slower (40-50mph) roads. Didn't go above 24C. Got back to base and everything was stone cold. Igbts , heatsink , rad , fill bottle.

The throttle response also seems smoother.

I'll try and get some video later in the week.

I am considering buying your kit and had some questions in order to help me decide on what to do.

1 - How long will the current kit be on sale?

2 - When will the 1000 Amp version be available soon?

3 - If the 1000 Amp version is not available soon, what would need to be done in order to upgrade later, if at all possible, if I buy the current kit?

Your answers will help me decide on what to do for now. Thanks for any help. And congrats on such a fine job in getting this open source controller to where it is now! This includes all who have contributed. Great job!!

I'll shed some light on the 1000A testing.

I have one of the three beta 1000A units. And I have all the stuff to test it except time. At the time Paul was building the 1000A unit I had a 72V system on lead acid. I wanted the lifepo4's anyway so the 1000A testing was a good excuse to order them.. which I did.. 8 weeks leadtime.. crap.

At the time I got the lipo's I realized I had to get a new charger.. easier said than done.. the Zivan NG3 I ordered had a lead time of 6 weeks.

I the meantime I tried to charge some individual cell with a meanwell DC supply.. and forgot about them.. and no BMS overcharged 6 cells.. crap. Had to order new ones.. took three weeks to get.

This is where I am now.. I got the replacement lifepo4's yesterday.

Also I have to swap the D&D motor or the warp 9 I have laying around.. I'm afraid the D&D will melt on the 1000A.

Anyone knows the status of the other 2 beta's?

You chaps in Europe should look into Kostov motors from Bulgaria. They have a good reputation and have options that some others don't seem to provide. Last time I looked pricing was competitive.

Kostovs are cheaper than Warp-motors and the same company also offers Winston lithium cells at good price. I've been running 9" Kostov with Paul's 500A controller for over 2000 miles.
