Our LX's only require a water temp above 145 degrees for lean burn and of course no NOX purge cycles either.
If you haven't seen it yet .. And you are ok with the side effects .. you can disable the NOx purge cycles on the Gen1 Insight as well.

As Much Lean Burn as You Want

Under the P137 code all other functions including autostop work as intended.

You still have to have conditions that normally allow lean burn.

As far as I know the Insight doses not report outside temp to the driver. I will go with Eckys post for the reason the Insight has this external temp sensor, he has much more experience with Insights.

With my limited testing, I was able to get into lean burn easier when this sensor was "seeing" above 80 degrees. Of course you also need the water and intake temps high enough also.

Thanks for the information. When I am more comfortable with how to keep the Insight in lean burn, I would like to use other methods to keep it in lean burn.

With the current mods I have made the car stays in lean burn for 60 to 120 seconds and then purges for 6 seconds and repeats the lean burn time. Right now I can live with this purge time knowing that it is a small loss of MPG to get rid of the NOX. Sometimes you have to "encourage" it to go back into lean burn by gently lifting the throttle.

Thanks for some future directions to go.

I go specifically to 60% ICE load (as reported by OBDIIC&C) .. That's the highest load I consistently get mine to always go back into LB after a purge.

Intake temps really don't matter with lean burn. I was just going into lean burn just fine with intake temp at 50F. It's mainly coolant temp thst decides L/B. Even then I have been in lean burn as low as 120F coolant temp on a 90F day.

What gets me is you are breaking 105 mpg in your Insight while there is still fruit left on the tree!

Stock mirrors need to go.
Why is that rear wiper still there?!
Needs a front wiper deflector

A boat tail would be the icing on the cake. MetroMPG's boat tail gained his Insight +9.7% mpg, which could be right around 10 mpg for your Insight.

I have no doubts that your Insight would break 125 mpg in a competition such as the Green Grand Prix. You have the car, and the skills to do it

Thanks for the feedback BD. I agree there are still many more mods that will improve the MPGs. This project is not finished yet!
