You don't typically deal with the owner at all. A bank or city government, yes.

How much would it cost for a razed lot with utility connections, surrounded by other abandoned mobile homes?

Location, location, location. In a ghetto, perhaps as little as 5 years unpaid taxes or about $2 thousand, see the west side of Detroit for example since they will give you the property for free.

How much training does the fire department need?

In Reno, 6 months academy, 1 year probation after being the 1.5% to get accepted

However, how often could I do this?

In my case 1 house every ten years or so

I don't think everyone would accept $10,000 instead of continued tax bills.

Once again, you don't generally deal with the owner.

People often don't make sense. You're not kidding here

If I could do this five times, I doubt I could manage it more than once or twice a year.
See above. Property leins are very risky, which is why they sometimes make lots of money as compensation. Sometimes you loose your butt more often than not.

How doomer of you.

Honestly to me, the only way renting makes sense is if you love to move a lot and don't know what to do with your hands, can't save a dollar for the life of you, or homes in your area are like $1000/sqft. But the majority of the time if you want to live in a stable area for 5 years like a mid-size city it makes sense to buy a home and get a roommate.
I'm good with those opinions though it drives a lot of people out of the market. Buying a house is already getting competitive with the 3.5% down loans the government is offering lol.
Having my 2.75% home loan and seeing inflation was 7.5% does help as well.

Buying makes sense for most people. But if you can't buy it's not the end of the world. I can't buy a house in my area, even though I've been wanting to for the past 15 years. But everytime I get enough for a down payment prices go up. Now it's just impossible. So I'll continue to rent here until I can't afford it and then I'll have to move somewhere else.

EDIT: I wonder if the housing bubble is starting to pop. I found a place for just under $200K, which is something I could afford.

There is a middle ground, own the home and rent the space to land it.

We are close. We have been in a trade war with china for a couple years now, and are now about to start one with Russia. I fully expect gas to be $4/gal here next week from 3.11 a week ago.
Possible sanctions were announced Feb 24th, Brent crude futures went up 20%, a week later gas went up 20%. Now that Pelosi is actually pursuing the russian oil ban i expect it to go up.

But I like trade wars. No more just posting colors and flags and copy and paste prayers on facebook. No. Trade war is the fun and interactive way to get everyone to participate!

So yes if we squeeze the people too hard this year I could see another depression/recession. Its looking similar.

Where are you all buying this cheap $4.00 fuel????? That was so before last year. Diesel is now 5.25 here in Reno at the cheap places and my kid says it is $6 in Capistrano

Among my regular news sources are the various This Week In Stupids. Romania's Vee did this one-off on the subject [NSFW language]

I find it interesting that gas is cheap everywhere but the West coast and North East. We probably are tired of hearing why but yeah gas is $3.49 here.

The problem with condos is that you never own the place free and clear - there is always a HOA fee that can be hundreds of dollars a month.

Well yes, when you inherit a home you inherit the taxes. Now whether you can pay the back taxes and transfer title depends on if the city has seized the property or not.

The Goldie Locks scenario you describe above requires you to find this person that inherited the home but doesn't know it before the cities seizes the property for unpaid taxes.

It isn't - it is a job. A job that likely pays less than just getting a regular job and has a huge amount of risk.

There was supposed to be a flight last night, but I think it was delayed until this morning. There was supposed to be a flight half an hour ago, but now it shows a turn-and-burn at 11:44.

I drove down the previous street and I do not like this neighborhood. Many houses look abandoned and one burned down.

I bet that I could find a place here delinquent on taxes, but for all I know the person who is supposed to own it will say "No lowballers! I know what I got!" and turn down their only offer.
I have no idea what you are going on about with flight schedules but the bold section above it what cheap houses have in common.

3 house bundle for $5,000. I don't expect you would find any wiring or copper plumbing left in those houses. I also expect any new copper wiring or plumbing installed to be gone in a week.
