Haha, it is a nice car. The suspension is in better shape than the Insight and I am enjoying that with our nice spring roads in Wisconsin (bumps galore). I would be very surprised if the ScanGauge was accurate as well. Your graph does give me hope though. Your Civic was the next gen, but the highway rating for the two cars is the same, 34 mpg. So its possible I suppose.
Another nice day of commuting for me. I got 42 mpg on the way home last night and 54 mpg in to work today. I used a little bit of EOC but not a ton. The computer doesn't reset after keying off real fast, so my glide is already half done before it typically starts updating again.

Yeah, I think I will be filling up later this week. I'm down to under a 1/4" tank now. Unfortunately, I didn't reset the scangauge at the beginning of the tank. But, it should give me an idea if its close or not.

First fill up in the Civic was this afternoon! The end result was 41.6 mpg. Not bad, but not as good as I was hoping for. The scangauge is definitely calibrated on the optimistic side. I reset it this time so I can calibrate it for next time. However, I may not even get a chance to fill it again depending on how quickly the work on the Insight goes.

Traffic was really light today. I assume a lot have taken off to have a long 4th of July weekend. So, I decided to push for a bit higher mileage. A good amount more EOC than normal (still opportunity for more). Note this is still on an uncalibrated (reading high) scangauge. My previous best was ~55 mpg though.

Hey Daox, I too have an 04 civic sedan but mine is an EX model with an Autotragic. idk why people online bash these cars so much saying 6th gen cars where better. Ive owned 4th gen, 5th gen, 6th gen civics, hatch backs, sedans, coupes, and i find this 7th gen... well... id say more refined. Mine has 135k on it now and I've owned it for 4 months or so and i love it! driving like a hoot im getting 26 mpg, best so far was 43.3 mpg coasting at 35 for 30 minutes because I got lucky and timed the traffic lights and got all green lights lol! Anyways, I drive mostly city and do lots of idling with AC on full blast so even tho I have a scan gauge II I mostly go by miles divided by gallons of gas when I refill to get real mpg numbers. Sorry for the letter lol just wanted to express myself a little after reading this thread. Car looks gorgeous btw!

My perception with the various generations was that the Civic seemed to get a fair amount bigger and heavier from 5th to 6th to 7th gen, though a quick search reveals the increase wasn't as dramatic as it felt. The 7th gens certainly "feel" like a much bulkier car, not sure if it's from a stiffer chassis or changes to the suspension, or something else entirely. Refined is probably the other side of that coin - a longer wheel base and increased weight would generally improve ride.

I haven't really worked on older Civics much at all. I have really only worked on several 7th gens. Most of them have had some pretty high miles on them besides this one. They seem to have a few common issues like the input shaft bearing and control arm bushings. But, overall they seem like a pretty reliable car. Perhaps not quite up to the standard of the 6th gen, but still above average. Thats my take on it at least.

Yes, the 7th gen had suspension changes that I didn't like. And the gearing got shorter, even on the HX. But I thought the coupe was good looking. And there is a guy on my Honda transmission specs thread these days revealing surprising swaps of gears with Inihts and 7th gen civics. That would give you nearly VX gearing in a 2005 HX. Check this out and his subsequent replies: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...tml#post541456
