Whoa, whoa, WHOA! Easy now. Let's not get TOO drastic here . Small steps. I suggest taking your next 5 years and keep track of your consumption, average them out to get a proper baseline, and then some A-B-A testing to make sure this is a viable mod .
Seriously, for me, there is QUITE a lot on my plate for 2012;
Install a diesel engine in the Jetta,
Finish the tail and paint the whole car,
Install a second fuel tank for WVO( with all the controls and guages),
Travel out to Boneville and back home safely and economically,
Find someone playful in the diesel column to banter about our numbers .

Soon I'm buying a '97 Civic DX 5 spd from some friends of mine. When I moved back from Washington to Nebraska they let me borrow it until I could find a car. I averaged 45 mpg without much hypermiling and no aero mods considering I did not own the car. The body is a bit rusty but that is easy to make it stop and patch where needed. Mechanically the car has been very very well cared for.
It will nearly double my mileage with just "normal driving" vs the 25 mpg that my current '88 Nissan Maxima gets.
I want to make the car comfortable and quiet, improve it's hwy economy, I will be making lots of trips to Chicago and don't want to be making 1,000+ round trip miles at 55mph. EFF that!

For the first time in a long time I have a savings account-hopefully the iS will allow me to put some of the savings from hypermiling into it,rather than repairs..
Agreed re the "money first, goods second" approach-why I only own cars I can buy outright
If I can hit 45 mpg 90day I'd be thrilled!
Hope A junior enjoys school!
Oh how I yearn to be one of the folks saying "working at keeping my 123456789mpg 90 day" you lucky folks

TBH the booze levels only grew when I moved up here
I think A Junior will enjoy it. We took him round for a tour a few weeks ago and its a different world from his current school - which has issues with teaching and bullying. Just hope we can afford it for the 8 years or so he will be there.
And as for MPG averages, have you seen Igor ? With a high starting point its hard to get a decent % increase for the Aygo.
I'm with you on the money first approach. The quickest way to earn money is not to owe money, and now with fees everything will be saved for first.

There is more than enough scope for a reduction, and A-B-A testing is complete (hic) I'm thinkingof switching to American beer as that has such a low alcohol and taste content, a kind of aversion therapy

Nice choice!
Last year's goals:
- new car (didn't happen)
- keep at the hypermiling as best as I can (best tank ever mid-summer, and matched my undeclared goal of 75 mpg for the year (by 0.1! ))
New goals:
- Keep the Civic running and tuned so the mileage stays up. It's cheaper than any new car.
- keep at the hypermiling
- gain some weight (seriously! I'm 6'2" and 150 lb = 188 cm / 68 kg) I plan to do some lifting and body-weight routines.

Not sure I can do much with my average with a 5.3 mile commute.

Sure, theres a lot you can do. Mainly mods to speed up warm up times like a block heater, full / actuated grill block, engine insulation.
My commute is only 7 miles so thats what I'm focusing on.

That's exactly what I am looking to do is improve warmup times.

My goal is to get my 2011 Tacoma to a steady 25mpg. It gets about 22 right now, and the highest from the summer was 24. The mods I'd like to do are warm air intake, exhaust, header, and possibly a tanou cover. The fact that's it's so new and still under warranty kinda limit me to what I can do. But... I had a 4 cyl 5 sp ford ranger 3 years ago, which is actually the reason I joined this site and how I got into ecomodding. Well I sold it to my buddy, he broke it and gave it back to me. My plan is to make it my Eco toy. I already put in a manual steering box, but since it's not my primary vehicle, the skies the limit. My planned mods for 2012 are underbelly tray, exhaust, 1 piece lightweight nose, major weight reduction, and aero cap. And although it's not quite a "goal" for this year. Im going to keep scouring Craigslist, municipal auctions, and junkyards for a small 3 or 4 cyl diesel from a Jacobsen lawn mower or something similar, because my oil-burning 180k mile 2.3l beast is just begging for a replacement!

My 2011 average was 27.3 mpg, which is also my lifetime average (about 1/2 of which was before I started serious ecomodding/hypermiling).
My 2012 goal would be 32 mpg. Another, more challenging goal would be the whole year on 12 tanks (one/month). I filled up 7 times in the last 6 months.
My stretch, stretch goal is to get an average of 36 mpg (equal to the combined EPA rating of a Smart Car)--that's probably still a ways to go for me, though.
