Got my belt today. Of course it's raining now so can't do anything. Had no problem cutting it, though think I'll lay everything out and run it through the bandsaw at work tomorrow.

Just found the thread, read through. Sorry to say but *I* think you nailed the proper height with Mk 1 air dam. Good work!

Thanks, was intuition and shear luck! When I checked the ground clearance to the driveway of MkI it was only 1/4" above. So I worked a bit backwards inasmuch as I should have checked the clearance first (measure twice, cut once), but I got away with it in a roundabout way.

How low can you go?
The added lawn edging isn't improving on my MPGs...at least with city driving. It's rather interesting that it only scrapes a little here or there. Gonna give it 2 more tanks of gas to show me some improvement before I pull it off...
I might consider just keeping the lawn edging in front of the tires...
You might want to consider a remote mount of yer oil filter. It would give you the best of two worlds...easy access and air flow management.
The pool noodle was just an attempt at a low cost lower air dam. It was fun but it didn't show me the improvement I would've liked to have seen...

I know you're done with extending the air dam, but since I didn't see anyone else answer... Do you have (or can you get) some scrap wood blocks (2x6 for instance) that you can drive up on? If you get several of varying lengths (3', 2.5', 2', etc), you can stagger them (screwed / glued together) so it's possible to drive up the blocks to a height that you need (one set of blocks for each side) ... cheap and safe (obviously you still need to use wheel chocks etc.). Similar to this:
Or of course you can just get some Rhino Ramps or similar.

.1" lower! Figured I could get away with it. In the end I'm not sure I'd gain anything going lower (if I could). Need to go wider and full width.
