And as a bonus, I noticed a 1000% mpg increase as soon as I did it!!
(ok, maybe not that last part)

Quite a few rigs use magnets in the oil drain plug to catch ferrous metal, when you find a bunch at an oil change it's time to sell the car. Flip side of that if you see a car advertised as just had an oil change/tune up steer clear.

I used a magnet on my car today and it made my life so much easier.
The magnet in question was a flat blade screwdriver. I used it to fish out the trim fastener I dropped.
As for mileage, nope.

If you want something to be done, then roll up your sleeves and do it yourself.

Well if that's all you've got then I'm not impressed.
I don't know if magnets work with fuel, as I've not tried them yet. I'm pretty well convinced they work well with water, though I've not tried that yet either. Thus it looks like I'm in the same boat as the author of that link, because he's not tried them either. Except that he's in the boat of being an expert about them. Well perhaps I should write an article about why they do or don't work, and then I can also be an expert on this topic - from not ever having tried them before.
As far as I'm concerned, the OP uses the magnets and they do work for him, just like some FE devices work for some and not others. Perhaps you attached the magnets the wrong way, perhaps they don't work with your particular car, perhaps the nut needs major adjustment etc etc.

If logic and experience don't work, what does it take? What more do you need?

Faith! Faith trumps logic and experience every time! Especially for these types of gimmicks!

sounds to me like he had a chunk of metal clogging the fuel line, the magnet pulled it to the top out of the way haha

probably. i have one of the magnets that wraps around the oil filter, i don't think it really does much other than stick to the filter. as far as ones for going on the fuel lines, i'll leave them alone, in hopes that not having an additional magnetic field under my hood will help.

As I understand it the draing plug (renewable) is magnetic anyway. Otherwise a magnetic one is fine. Mrs A's Octavia has a full undertray for the front which is flatter than the one in the ad. But if yours does not have one that seems reasonable.
I would get some miles in standard condition first. Make sure you know what technique works the best. Air con vs windows depends on the car. The air con in the Octavia (same as yours) makes no noticeable difference to performance in my experience. I left it in Auto mode for a month and Mrs A didn't notice.
EDIT - this is in the wrong thread - move along, nothing to see
