I have been suffering from computer freezes throughout the day. I scanned for viruses and turned off some programs that were automatically loading, but I think that I need to examine the registry to see the full list. This is not exactly a powerhouse, but a two year-old i7 with 16 GB of RAM should be adequate for browsing the Internet and using small Office documents, although I tend to have many things open at once.
People always make stupid comments about all of the tabs that I have open. Through no fault of my own I had four tabs open when my computer froze this morning. My friend helpfully observed "It sounds like you have a problem." I was reading about Leaf batteries when my computer froze. I pulled up Task Manager and found out that my 3D processes were at 100%. I had checked for viruses and reviewed startup programs. I finally installed an SSD and my computer was much faster, but after four days, it started freezing, three times today. I looked into it, installed Malwarebytes, it cleaned out some stuff, and my 3D processes are way down.
Anyway, I had shared that Nissan charged $2,850 for refurbished Leaf batteries and $5,500 for a new one, plus installation, which was supposed to be three hours. I provided sources, too!
I forgot I had an unfinished post when I allowed my system to reboot.
I also saw many pages discussing this:
Quote:
I just called Nissan about a replacement battery because my 2011 Nissan leaf is down to 8 bars and I only get about 35 miles on a charge. I was informed that the battery replacement cost is now $7000 plus labor and taxes (up from $5499). This means replacement costs are around $8500.

Warning: Battery Replacement Cost Increase (now $8500) - My Nissan Leaf Forum
There are a couple hundred posts in that thread. I am not sure they went anywhere, though.
Edit: Then there is this Dorman battery with a twelve-month warranty for $2,128.95. Supposedly shipping is included.

Ah, $2850 for a refurbished battery - we are on the same page now. The problem for Leaf owners in the USA is that refurbished batteries are only sold in Japan. (At least last time I checked)

That does stink. Is that for a 30kWh battery? Still in their defense puts it at the same price per kWh as Tesla and GM batteries.
This is what scares a lot of people. $8000 to keep a 2011 $30,000 car working correctly? A new from GM crate motor on my GMC is $6500 installed but it still doesn't need it after 15 years and 225k miles. I suppose it did cost $65,000 in gas for that 225k but pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

Do you think a single Leaf will make it to 225,000 on the original battery?
I guess replacing it every 28,125 miles would cost the same as all of that gas, minus electricity.

Isn't there a Leaf thread?
I noticed that the Arcimoto website that hadn't updated their blog in months have taken it down completely. I'm signed up with them but I never see these newsletter updates they offer now.
The Superbeetle is running, as soon as I get the running boards back on I think I'll swing by the factory and see what's up.

I see "updates" on Facebook but I know you are not there. They aren't much more than little PR things like which celebrity took one for a spin. They do allow comments but I bet they get censored. I'll have to look at what's the latest and see if it's worth cutting and pasting here if there isn't a webpage to link to.

You might like this post from a few weeks back. Most of the news looks like posts about where they are doing test drives. They went across southern US to Florida.

I censor my Facebook wall. Someone shows intolerance, exceptional ignorance, or definite trolling, I take that down. I do not need that negativity and I definitely will not enable it. I have seen the comments that people make about the Arcimoto. I still want someone to explain the advantages an Arcimoto has over a used Leaf with a good battery, but I am not going to say so in any official thread.
Many people just troll people honestly working on a great project. I have seen Arcimoto staff try to reason with people refusing to be reasonable.
After a while it seems like a waste of time.

I'd like Arcimoto to succeed. But I wonder if it has a right of existence.
I fear it may just combine the disadvantages of motorcycles with the disadvantages of cars, like a sidecar motorcycle - except nobody waves at you...
One of my uncles had a Messerschmitt when he was young. It was a giggle, but also a real PITA, and he was only too happy to dump it for something vaguely carlike (a MG convertible IIRC, lots of problems with that too, but no regrets) when he got the chance.
I've been a biker for 18 years. And being a biker means you're a car driver when you drive a car, obviously, but you're a biker when you read the newspaper or lie in your bed or whatever.
I sold my bikes because I'm still alive and want to stay alive for a while. I've seen enough attempts to change that. No more - for now.
The Acrimoto doesn't yield bike creds. So it has to be better than a car in some way. I can't see that.
