Most if not all modern high pressure injection diesels have an auxiliary pump - often in the tank - pumping the fuel around, with the high pressure pump taking its feed from the aux pump.

However, Varn and I have old school mechanical pumps that have a lift pump incorporated in the injector pump. Normally an auxiliary lift pump is not needed. Mine is having issues for now. Growing pains, if you will.

Got some electrical work done tonight. Getting closer to a road test.

Yahoo! Another diesel and this one with a full boattail! I think you and Varn are going to raise the bar for what these diesels can do.

Progress- Got the glow plugs wired, firing a 60 amp solenoid off the rear window heater switch. Got the fuel pump wired to key switched power that doesn't disappear in start position. Got rid of the catalytic converter and installed the exhaust front to back. I am getting some leakage around the manifold to flange connection, will need to revisit once a couple other things are done.

To do- Still need to realign the crank pulley and fix the fuel leak around #1 injector.

Road test tomorrow.

The rest will be tweaking and "hardening" as aerohead said.

Very glad to hear it's getting all sorted out. And here is a teaser shot since my wife and I stopped on outr way to Colorado yesterday... the salt was quite wet, so we kept it under 110.

Hopefully, I'll be there with you in September.

Maiden voyage from work to home tonight.

There seems to be some stumbling above a certain rpm( no tach for now) under load, but smooth on the flats. Thinking weak injector. I'm going to send out my 4 spares to be reworked tomorrow.

Smoke is getting in the cabin under hard pulls( lots of those 'round here) and I'm assuming that's the leakage around the manifold/flange fitting.

Temp was OK, hung around thermostat opening for a while and didn't get past the fan on temp. Was able to drop temp with manual fan switch.

Going to make a few runs before I start a fuel log, just to make sure everything is going to hold together for now.

Lots to do before Bonneville

Have a few runs under my belt. Leaks are all fixed, lots less smoke, running smoother,... Few things to work on. More miles will bring more things to fix, I'm sure.

Going for the initial fill tomorrow. As I don't have instant fuel readings right now, I'll be filling up every week. No belly pan for easier repair/modding.

Time is getting short.

This fill might be a little low on the mileage side as I blew a c-v joint on the way to work Friday morning. I won't have a new one until Monday night. This did give me an opportunity to tie up some wiring, reroute a few things and basically improve things in general. I'm going to try to make a few highway runs to watch temps and all before this weekend.

I need to make some blockage around the radiator as it has some pretty big gaps on either end. Previous sealing was done with spray foam. This time I'll use ABS plastic( old truck mudflaps).

Going on a much needed weekend get-away with friends I only get to see once a year. Only about a hundred mile round trip, but the break will do me good.

Road worthy again. Running well, acceleration is better than I expected, need to put some miles on it before the big trip. Still lots to do in the engine compartment. Really need to smooth over the tail. Need to do something with the interior to make it sleepable. Also, still need fire extinguisher and H-rated tires. Got a XXL/SA2005 helmet on Ebay for $60, in "Stig" white. I'm not the Stig, but his PWT-Hillbilly cousin.

Where it's running well, I'll do some on road testing to see where I'm at as far as performance. I need to find a flat section of road somewhere.
