Thanks Terry. As the pic shows, no fuel from the overflow lines.

Thought I'd throw some number around from the trip( we do appreciate numbers here);

Day 1- 511 miles
Day 2- 300 miles
Day 3- 518 miles
Day 4- 427 miles
Day 5- 496 miles
Day 6- 529 miles
Day 7- 372 miles( longest day BY FAR!)

First fill- 1329.9 miles/20.811 gallons= 63.9 mpg
Second fill 923.2 miles/14.269 gallons= 64.7 mpg
Final fill 901.1 miles/??????? gallons
Total trip 3154.2 miles

Final fill will have to wait as I have repairs that will have to be finished before the tired girl will be taken on the road again. I'll try to get it done this week as I'm still going to take the time off. No promises.

P.S. We're having some sever storm weather tonight in honor of me making it home, so I might not be on here very much.

PPS- The temps did come up slower and were easier to manage. I still need to invest in the diesel radiator( larger than the one I have) and heater core. Both will increase the thermal mass of the cooling system.

I love that hairpin! Going East with a slipping clutch, however, I feel your anxiety.

Welcome home.

Mrs Varn, Skunk dog (who still stinks) and I are glad to hear that you made it back home in one piece. Remember there is always next year!

I'm going to add the states that I traveled through;

Vermont( obviously)
New York
Pennsylvania
Ohio
Indiana
Illinois
Missouri
Nebraska
Iowa
Massachusetts

I also kept track of the tolls that I paid and staying on I80/90 will run just under $70 round trip. Good argument for the E-Zpass.

Hey, if something didn't break it wouldn't be a VW!

Glad to hear you're okay... but now I'm starting to wonder what happened to the rest of the Bonneville-ers! Surely one of them has internet access...

The event runs until Tuesday or Wednesday( I think I read that Wed is the clean up day?). I'm thinking the weekenders will be the first to post with the long termers/late arrivals(Aerohead) chiming on during the week. I'm not sure where internet access is out there, but they might be having too much fun in the evening to post here

More Bonneville shots

I can't find the cord to download pics from my camera, so here are a few more from my phone.

A shot of aerohead's car just after he arrived to top-off and check FE: driving posted speeds of 55-70mph, steady cruise, he said he got 32.25 mpg on the way to Bonneville:

A car in the 39hp Challenge [EDIT: 36hp]. I liked the wheel skirts. Thanks to Metromizer for making the BBQ invite with the VW folks possible for the ecomodders:

This Team Vesco streamliner reached 320mph on its first run. It claims to be the fastest wheel-driven car with a record top speed of 470mph:

And here is a shot of the dash of my wife's 2010 Subaru Forester (auto trans) showing peak temp outside going across southern Nevada and my peak ave FE too):
