"We are at a turning point, from fossil fuels"
Maybe in their own minds. I have found that politicians and reporters are particularly horrible at math.
To be at a real turning point solar and wind would need to be near out producing at least one type of fossil fuel source or out pacing fossil fuel plants being built for total production capacity built, not these fake name plate capacity numbers you always see them showing off.
So that's not happening and isn't going to be happening for a long time.
The only renewable that's not just a blip on the total production pie chart is hydro power, and hydros market share has been slowly shrinking over the last 20 years as demand for drinking water and irrigation has increased with no new hydro dams being built and other forms of power generating capacity being added.

I heard more than one news about solar energy be cheaper than coal.
Is that true or not, or just in some countries which have not much coal ?

For name plate watts PV is cheaper.
Once you factor in the night and storage for night time, coal is still cheaper and more reliable.

Solar works great to offset the mid-day summer cooling peak for California from the nearby desert. It's pretty useless all winter long in the North East USA, Germany, Russia ect. I'm still getting whiteout snow conditions here off and on all week.

According to Christian Science Monitor, solar parking is surprisingly expensive, and only financially viable with subsidies.
Pity.

The increasing instability of the North polar vortex has created a tendency for the jetstream to dip South into the eastern USA in Winter.

So they're wrong again.
Oh and the seasonal polar vortex disappeared last week or the week before. Supposedly there is another snow storm going to hit central northern US and new England this week.
