As long as you first have the energy surpluses to build all of this high tech hardware and buildings. And a rock steady grid to power it all afterwards day and night at the flick of a switch. installing buildings and grow lights to make food for 8 billion people is quite a different scale to growing a few tons of pot.

Human power vs high quality energy we take for granted. Cyclist vs toaster.

Three posts in 11 minutes?

Reminds me of Jack Rickard's rant about magic rocks. Some of them lie in the sun and create electricity. Problem is some of the magic rocks are bots sowing discord on Facespook.

Maybe it's cheaper to bore tunnels than erect buildings?

I do hear this comment often.
There's a philosophical position that says leave it in the ground until you understand what's going on down there. Electrically, and what-not.

Hey sendler- what is that website you point us to that describes the enormity of the energy issue? The one that shows what it would take to transition to renewables, or the amount of time it would take to build sufficient nuclear power?

Roadmap To Nowhere puts some numbers and math that was missing from the Solutions Project into the equation to show the scale of trying to replace all energy with rebuildables.

The Myth of Powering the Nation With Renewable Energy
.
David MacKay was an engineer that also did a good and open minded study of the feasibility of rebuildables replacing all energy. Or even trying just to just replace all electricity. Which is only 20-30% of total energy consumption.

Nate Hagens is a very modest genius who has devoted the second half of his life to studying a synthesis of everything from energy, economy, ecology, psychology, evolution. And stands on the shoulders of many giants which he links to in his University course which I was honored to shadow from home last fall. I am very anxiously waiting the download release of his two, 1,000 page , free, books, so that I can have a quicker reference to the compiled facts.
His video presentations are essential to an educated person's understanding of where we are going and are a very easy watch. The key take away for me was understanding the concept of embodied energy and the 300 fossil slaves holding each American up right now. He needs work on his site and youtube channel though

That is the thing about science and knowledge it is provisional. Too many people seize on this to mean uncertainty but it does not mean that. It is only provisional until we find new knowledge to supplant it, it is not uncertain because because uninformed people have doubts, or because persons with their own self interest attack it. It is provisional until better information and knowledge supplant it.
