That's why the spread of the newer gearless, 1000 to 1500 foot tall wind turbines of stupendous efficiency & power, be encouraged. One of several, seldom told advantages of massed, off-shore wind turbines, are their potential ability, to limit & even reduce the power of incoming hurricanes, while providing huge amounts of wind power.

Fuller advocated for indoor windmills for reasons of maintenance, wildlife protection, efficiency and protection against high winds. A vertical axis mill at the oculus of a hemisphere will scale to your proportions on the open ocean.

edit: and if it's a complete sphere, the bottom 5/8ths can be a fish farm. At the surface, openings dynamically face into the wind which rises into a converging duct where it is accelerated into an Achimedean screw under a rotating/windvaning cap that sucks from the top. Dynamic=>static=>dynamic pressure mean it would be mild inside at the surface.

One could hang old airplane fuselages inside and connect them with scaffolding. It could be like Ready Player One. Better yet, under the bridge in Johnny Mnemonic.

We could do more if we could focus our efforts on what we really need. But for now, additions of rebuildable energy are not even keeping up with the increased consumption that must accompany economic growth. Let alone replacing any of the half of the 17 TeraWatts that were are blowing through which would then also require totally rebuilding all machinery and infrastructure to run on electricity. I would hope that it is becoming pretty clear that we are not going to build our way out of this jam. It would be much wiser to choose to bend back down with a controlled degrowth than to keep "kicking" the metaphorical "cans" of limits down the road with increased debt driving even faster extractive economies which serves only in delaying a higher eventual fall.

That would require making and distributing things using no energy. There have been efficiency improvements throughout the 80's and 90's. And Some European countries have reduced energy consumption while maintaining GDP production by featuring voluntary lifestyle austerity choices such as moving to a smaller apartment close enough to work that allows a bicycling commute. Much of the recent GDP growth is just debt that exists as investments so just looks good on paper. For now.

It is pretty much just physics. It takes energy to provide goods and services.

Gearless turbines use astounding amounts of copper and rare earth magnets compared to geared turbines for the power they produce.

So, sailing ships with hemp canvas sails and ropes then.

I like Elon Musk's attitude which I paraphrase: "The best part is no part. The best process is no process. If the design presents complications then it wasn't the correct solution."

And that floating fish farm/windmill/casino? There is an opportunity to store compressed air underwater for energy storage.

It could be an invert hyperboloid instead of a dome:

That was mismanagement and mismanagement alone.

It had nothing to do with climate change.

Since it was suggested that we eat “babies”, it should take the pressure off the fish...

Are the advantages of almost no moving parts worth it for ease of maintenance and longevity? Especially since the most modern application has shifted to non-synchronous DC transmission.

The invert hyberboloid would be essentially a five legged Eiffel tower, With big flaps that would rotate up to spoil airflow out of the bottom. Three sides in low winds and two sides in high winds to bleed off the excess.

The Coriolis Effect would create an inverted gravity vortex to supercharge the turbine.

Why do they call those big horizontal axis propellers turbines, anyway?

The casino is to pay for everything. Blackjack and who-cares>covert money with lack of oversight>easy [libertarian]money. Seasteading for fun and profit.

When have you hardly ever seen me feature climate change in my major concern? I don't post that slide as an example of climate change. Although continued increased acidification of the oceans and temperature stratifications will have a deleterious effect on the calcified zooplankton which form the base of the food web will cause further collapse.
.
Fisheries collapsing is a symptom of humans having generally overshot our biological carrying capacity. And is also a prime example of the tragedy of the commons.
