I don’t think we’ve done this one yet.

FESS - Flywheel Energy Storage Systems

They give some interesting stats in the video.

All in all.
It’s just another piece of the energy storage puzzle...

I'd watched that. I don't recall that they touched on the impasse where the shape that resists explosion is an oblate spheroid rather than a rim with spokes.

If you push the technology unscheduled disassembly becomes a prospect.

I just want to see artificial gravity implemented in a space station / space transport by giving the object just the right amount of spin. Wonder what the technical challenges are, because the folks on the ISS have to constantly work out to prevent catastrophic loss of physical ability.

In a rotating environment just moving your head can make you dizzy or even sick.

I always thought the best way to create artificial gravity in a space station is by having one centralized compact living quarter and a really long cable with a heavy counterweight on the end, rotating around the station. That way the rotation could be relatively slow and the effects relatively mild.

Plus, astronauts will automatically adjust their aim if they miss the fly.

I wonder what RPM would be considered "livable"? How big would that radius be?

Assuming a rigid cable connection, the station would spin. You be weightless but dizzy.

However if the station and counterweight rotate around a common barycenter; the station and counterweight could be equal in mass , or not.

Weightless and Dizzy; another great band name, or at least an album title.

Bicycle wheel design is the way to go for a space station. But you would need some kind of propulsion to keep it spinning. Centripetal force will do a lot but people walking around inside it will slow it down over time.
