Sure am happy for all that global cooling and frigid tropical waters taking the punch out of storms.
Miami public schools are adding 'fish' to their foreign language curriculum,in anticipation of 'new neighbors.'
The "above average hurricane season" isn't due to climate change. Solar cycle 25 is about to roar to life after a long minimum and lull in hurricane seasons and the weathermen know it.

I don't even know why the fossil fuel industry would benefit from advertising, but then again I wonder the same thing when I see drug commercials and yet they still exist. If someone needs to utilize fossil fuels, they will. Nobody is sitting around wondering how they are going to find energy for their lawnmower. In a similar vein, I don't know why I'd need to tell my doctor that they need to prescribe asthma medication, for example.

Anyhow, branding for commodities is stupid. Petrol is petrol, and there's no reason to advertise it. Apparently it's not stupid, because people still prefer their bleach say Clorox on it, rather than NaClO

Competing amongst themselves. In the 1970s, during the unpleasantness, I wondered why the pumps weren't labeled, e.g., Texas, North Sea, OPEC. So one could vote with their dollars.

That's a fantastic point. Conflict free petrol. Mind if I add that to my list of million dollar ideas?

"Murican crude; conflict free 'cause nobody messes with Murica."

Might be a strategy to keep domestic oil in business.

The other part of it was that with wine they can localize it down to specific fields. With Black Gold it could be specific pipelines.

Even if you could localize and select gasoline it wouldn't make a difference, Other people don't care and take what you left.
It would be different if you could taste it like wine. But you can't. Crude is just crude.

That's the point that I'm making, that people aren't rational, and marketing exists because of this. Why do people buy Clorox bleach? Why do people buy name brand drugs rather than generic? Even doctors will buy name brand drugs over generic even though they know the products are identical. Then there's the fact that "healing crystals" and "therapy magnets" exist. Marketing is everything, and the actual product has little to do with anything.

By definition, whatever comes out of the ground at the wellhead is 'crude' oil.Crude may vary in specific characteristics (light, intermediate, heavy, sweet, sour, etc.) however it's all 'crude.'
