Bah. Up and down. I drive a few days, but then because wife's car is in California with her mother, she has to borrow it and robs me of the progress I made. I am stuck in the high 30s/low 40s when this season has shown a comfortable mid-40s capability, even hit my all-time high breaking 50 on a significantly long drive (coincidentally to pick her up).

My mantra:
A bad tank number is still a win for the family.
She can get around 40 in the Fit without trying, and that beats the hell out of the low to mid 20s the minivan gets. Even if "my score" looks worse, my overall fuel bill is better.

I keep telling myself some version of this. Maybe it's just a shock after so much uninterrupted driving time in the car

Trip to the Dentist this morning in the Fiesta. Got in the tail end of the morning rush hour. Hit 55 MPG after 4 miles when I got on 64 east. Lots of traffic, enough to slow things down to 60 MPH in the right lane (speed limit 65). Coasting downhill at every opportunity with a big rig in front of me. By the time I exited the road coasting up the off ramp, I hit my peak mileage at 64.7. On the way home I managed to keep it above 60 almost the whole way. When I got home it was still at 61.2, a new record for me on that trip I take 3 times a year.
This tank at around 200 miles is still above 600 total estimated range (actually 613). Last tank was 52+ average, this one looks better so far.

Wow! New best on the way in this morning, 60.4.
Oh, and last night I finished my second 50+ tank in a row. I love August.
