some weeks ago, in my infinite quest of weight remove I installed a toyota yaris NST light weight pulley.

I noticed a increase in acceleration at about 2k rpm and more.
nothing big but butt dyno approved
the old pulley weight was 3.4-3.5 lbs and the new is 0.4-0.5 so its about a 3lbs reduction. but a VERY strategic 3 lbs reduction

Which pulley?

this is me trying to do my best in the most hilly road I have drove.
the little red light left to my speedometer means EOC
no little red light mean pulse at about 80% LOD or engine breaking
sorry for the SG not lisible

Nice to see the pulley worked for you. The MOI at the crank is very low, so must gains are from underdriving the acc. I was lucky as d15z1 is non-dampened stock, so longevity shouldn't be affected. Is this the same on the echo?

Nice job echo-francis!

Xntrx, by MOI are you refering to rotational mass in some way. A 3 lb reduction in rotational mass being equivalent to maybe 6 or even 12 lbs dead weight? And by dampened you mean no harmonic balancer? Or something else. Sorry for basic questions, but if I am asking then there must be other readers who don't quite recognize the terms, ether, right? I am actively considering this mod when I do scheduled timing belt work sometime in the near future, maybe March. I don't have AC or PS anymore and since the crank pulley has to come off for the timing belt replacement... maybe its a good time to mod it. Thanks man.

i dont know if my pulley is dampened or not but there are people on yaris world that have the same pulley for 50000 mi+ with no problem. and in my case there is no belt on the pulley so I dont think longevity is affected

Sorry, MOI = Moment of inertia. The mass of a crank pulley is "tight" to the axis, reducing the leverage.

Dampened does equal a harmonic balancer of sorts (more of a dampening of harmonics in practice).

On a d16, don't do it. These are dampened, and may lead to damage. the reason they are dampened is the r/s ratio is worse do to the longer stroke. (*edit* r/s = rod to stroke ratio, with 1.75:1 being ideal. any lower/higher becomes more unstable).

But if I had a lighter pulley that was dampened or balancer adequately the mod would be useful, you think? Remember that I have to remove the pulley, anyway, to do the timing belt. And I would be replacing a pulley that must be quite heavy, with useless PS and AC spaces on it. I bet it would be very hard to find a pulley light enough and well balanced for cheap enough to make it seem like a good idea.
