The one from the wild — did you take the picture yourself? Do you have a higher resolution?

I like it from the bumper up, I'm just afraid it's on a solid axle chassis. Chestnut brown over Sealing Wax red, fiberglass air scoops, missing engine lid... classic.

I was taking some other pictures off the camera and I saw that I hadn't posted this from the road trip to the Darko wind tunnel:

This was parked outside the showroom of Cascadia Vehicle Tents in Bend, OR. (cascadiatents.com). Inside they had tents on top of an old Land Rover and a BMW 320i.

Looks like it is in fact on a solid axle chassis. It may not be the best configuration overall, but I must confess I've already got tempted to build a custom chassis with a driveline quite similar to the one fitted to the Scania N-Series bus (which has a transverse engine, and solid axles) and put a Kombi body on top.

Even though I would prefer a Kombi, maybe with a Westfalia-like conversion, that Baja with a roof tent looks quite cool.

RE: did you take the picture yourself?
A guy I know from another forum put those up. He's got a project going that's a secret and is leaving bread crumbs to torture the rest of us...

cRiPpLe_rOoStEr — http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ted-26915.html

Here's an Ecomodder tale where he couldn't stand the MPG hit with it installed, so he moved it to a hitch mount, and his mileage went up over stock.

ChopStix — Yes, here's proof:

And I took one interior shot. I like the free-standing two-story model. I'd hang a red towel in the doorway so it looks like a tongue.

Go forth and drop breadcrumbs back.

Only yesterday I got to know that Volkswagen has once tried a hybrid Kombi prototype, meant to be used as taxi in NYC.

One of the guidelines of the project was that it should be wheelchair-accessible, way before the ADA got passed into law.

Just as a matter of curiosity, the first wheelchair-accessible taxis of my hometown were also Kombis, obviously not hybrid though...
