It's not so usual to see a Volkswagen truck with this Marcopolo sleeper cabin anymore.

jalopnik.com:Volkswagen Hints At The Possibility Of A Reborn Electric Thing Or Other Classic Volkswagens

Torchinsky's on the case. They mention that 'Thing' is more consumer-friendly than 'Kübelwagen'. They could call it Type 181 or Trekker.

Retro styling is tricky, look to the New Beetle or BMW Mini. But they could take the spare tire mount from the Kübelwagen but put it at bumper height, like a Superbeetle on a bearing mount so it doubles as a bumper.

I recently saw a Kombi turned into a food-truck, with an Uruguayan-style parrilla.

Last time I saw one of those Kombis of Elma Chips (local branch of Frito-Lay, just like Sabritas in Mexico) in effective operation, that was 2008 or 2009. By then, they've been mostly replaced by Iveco Daily cutaways, and a handful remained only as reserve fleet. Now it's the turn of their successors to serve as reserve fleet.
