sixth gear? That alone is a major upgrade for the Fiesta. 2750 rpm @ 60 mph is terrible horrible no good very bad.

Expect the same 5spd manual and 6spd automatic for now. Ford has been hesitating on bringing the 6spd manual to the US. Someone told me they're using one in the new C-Max in Europe. And I know they're using one in the Focus ST but I dunno much about it.

In today's LA Times online edition:
"The Fiesta will come to the U.S. market in the second half of next year, Ford said. It hasn’t set a price, but the current model sells in the $14,000 to $16,000 range, depending on features. If Ford prices the turbo option as it does in larger vehicles such as the Flex or Explorer, it will add about $1,000 to the price of the vehicle."

If they keep true to that price point, I will trade in my V8 '05 Stang GT for one without hesitation. It is exactly what I've been looking for in a new car: a turbo'ed small engine car. The only thing that would make it better is if it was diesel.

They are a few years off into the future.

They are working on expanding the range the HCCI engine can run across. So far it is a relatively narrow rpm/load range. However, it certainly would be ideal as a gen set in a Chevy Volt type application.

GM was involved in their development, alongside Australian company Orbital Engines. Anyway, considering Mazda's experience with the SkyActiv engines it could be a substantial advantage if Ford got benefitted from its remaining ties with Mazda to bring the first commercially-viable HCCI.

That would make it cheaper than the 2012 Civic HF and the 2012 Prius C, and it would do better on fuel than the former and maybe as well as the latter. Seems like it would be a real challenge to the market as it stands right now, no?

Relying only on Diesel power, even a BMW 5-series can still provide a higher fuel-economy than a Prius. It's also not so usual for newer Diesel compacts (including the Opel Astra which had been offered in the American market in its previous generation as a Saturn) to get 70 highway MPG...

My wife really wants one of these for her next car. We have had 4 geo metros, and we have booth been lambasting the manufacturers for not delivering an updated geo metro, or a "prius for the us poor folks". I am following you'alls opinions closely. I am thinking of trying to steer her towards a first gen insight, but it looks like the fiesta might be a bit safer with the tougher 2012 crash test ratings? Any of you Europeans driven both? Is one noticeably quieter at higher speeds? We both appreciate quiet in a car, sometimes hard to get in an econobox.

Mad max would have driven a metro
