Sounds good to me. Sign me up for the "poverty feature" turbo 1.0L that produces the same HP as the 1.6 but burns less gas and incurs fewer taxes. Nice poverty!

Ford's strategy has been to offer ecoboost on higher trims. I doubt they will change.
BTW, I found some official specs for the 1.0L turbo. No idea on curb weight but if it's less than the current Focus, it'll be fine. Notice that fuel economy is EU. It looks like they only offer manual transmissions, the 6spd gearing looks especially nice. It's a good balance between tall and short.

I just spent two weeks in Italy. Seems like the Smart Car is very popular there. Most cars are very small due to high gas prices and very tight roads.
Also there appears to be more scooters than cars.
I welcome the 3 cylinder ecoboost, but wonder about durability.

The non-turbo won't be badged as Ecoboost. BTW where is this engine gonna be made for the US-spec versions? If it would come from Brazil, expect for a flexfuel version...

Probably from the Mexico plant. None of the ecoboost cars have been flexfuel. Which is a shame since it would work great in a turbo engine. Infact Ford hasn't been advertising flexfuel much at all lately. They took any explanation of E85 off the website to advertise their fuel efficiency, hybrid, and electric technology.

Turbo and direct injection are better for a flexfuel. An overbooster could be fitted to simulate a variable compression ratio, exploring the higher octane rating of ethanol, while the direct injection reduces the knocks while using gasoline.

A review of the drive
A driving review of the 2014 Fiesta 1.0L ecoboost, posted June 27 this year. Doesn't seem to have been shared on EM yet, so I thought this old thread a good place for it. I think he is looking for something to complain about when eh cites "engine noise":
If it is only $16K in the end, then it will pose a real challenge to even the Prius C2.

So exactly what I expected from a 3 banger: lots of noise, vibration and harshness. I'll save my dollars for a used 1.6. They should be coming off lease pretty soon.

Canadian spec
Found this last night on the 2014 Fiesta ecoboost 1.0L (seems to be Canadian spec., since it seems to be a Canadian site): Buyer's Guide: 2014 Ford Fiesta - Autos.ca | Page 2
Note the 6 speed auto as well as the five speed manual. I wish they'd build it with a six speed manual.

Yeah, that's the better strategy in terms of cash/depreciation too, but the car sounds cool, and I'd be willing to bet that my Civic is louder. I think I'll feel as if the reviewer was reaching when he complained about "noise" once I can get behind the wheel. (But I'm not really in the market for a car, anyway.)
