If there was any merch, I'd buy all of it (well... that I could anyway). Hats, keychains, shirts, bumperstickers. But I wonder what exactly it would take to create all of this :/ . I'd love to have the bumper sticker on there first off though.

These are just low-res mock-ups that the Ecomodder site-owners could do a better job of designing. It's up to them to decide if they want to create them. I already think the design could be better executed. For instance, I think the shell should have a rounder proportion.

Ha ha, actually I was thinking that you could go turtle-crazy based on your bent. If you're an aero-freak, the turtle gets the aero-mods. If you're a gizmo freak, the turtle gets the Borg-look. An EV-freak could have a battery symbol integrated into it. For veggie-diesel, I can only think of french-fries?!?!?!

You know the slow lane\truck lane idea may catch on easier than reducing the speed limit. I drive 39 miles per day on a road that varies from 50-70 mph. Actual speeds are 50-80. Most people stay in the left 2 lanes, but from time to time they race in the far fight or truck lane and flash the people or ride their bumpers. I just flip my mirror and turn up my radio.
But an "Economy lane" may pass. A heck of a lot easier than a general reduction anyway.
It would essentially be the ripple effect. Start small work your way out. Small would be acheivable and would have more luck in passing as law

I definately agree that grass-roots is the way to go.
Even when laws are passed to do something good, they end up doing weird things and costing the taxpayers (us!)
Personally, I tend to be a bit Civil Libertarian. I guess I wouldn't want a Federal Mandate saying that the max speed limit on the interestate was 45 (although the would save a LOT of gas)
But as a driver, why would I NOT want to slow down a bit. I get better mileage, and am less likely to loose control of the car, or die in a crash.
If other people ride your tail or flip their lights or fingers - that's their problem - not ours. It's a free country. Those guys are free to be jerks and waste gas.
Unfortanutely, they are also free to be bad drivers. But you can't mandate not being a jerk.
We collectively need to change our relationship with cars and slowly help others to do the same.

if the speed limit was 45 i'd get worse mpg's. I'm more of a speed limit 50mph person since that's when my vehicle shifts into O/D If I do get a speed limit of 45 I got 50 to get better mpg's, and cops around here will give you 5mph before they pull you over. such nice po-po.

How about some "advertizing" what we can achieve.
Example.... "Ecoturtle" is the cool picture
"Ecoturtle" : I can achieve 40 MPH City Ecomodder.com
or
"Ecoturtle" : I can achieve 65 MPH Highway Ecomodder.com
maube have some standard increments - (5 MPG increments?) and have one for City and Highway?
So the "doofus" riding your tail will maybe actually get the point.

I had an idea a while ago that might help convince people to go slower and save fuel. What if every car's speedometer had a highlighted green zone from say 35-55 mph that slowly changed to red as speed increased so people would have a visual cue to how they can save the most gas? I think it would be neat if all cars came with that, that way people tearing along at 75 mph would see the needle well into the red every time they looked at the speedometer. Getting people to think about their wallet is usually easier than getting them to think about the environment.
I also want to echo a sentiment from earlier in this thread about how little time speeding really saves you. Even going 10 mph over the limit on a 1 hour drive only saves about 8 minutes. Is it really worth it?

Here is a vacuum gauge from the 1970's that did a similar thing to your speedometer suggestion :
MILEAGE MONITOR (vacuum gauge)

In terms of speeding, I agree. The "gain" from speeding is more of a visceral feeling than a real gain. "Time is money" and "Gas is money" are both true in different degrees. How about this as a slogan :
"Time is money but gas costs more"-

Gotta make that into a bumper sticker.
The planet has unlimited time (OK - well, someday the sun will burn out)
But it only has limited petrol!
