I can't find it for the moment, but someone did a rater large spoiler with sideplates for his beetle that decreased it's drag enormously. ironically such a spoiler could be the trunklid of a normal sedan.

Bug spoiler: Welcome to www.max-mpg.com . That's essentially what he did - reshaped the rear of the car to make it more coupe/sedan-like.

Just went by the Toy Store (Lowes) today to look for Plexiglass and Lexan myself. Turns out there's this middle grade 'glass' they have now. Might be a happy middle ground to go with on this project. A big sheet of Lexan was $70 versus about $25ish for Plexi... hmmm... Apparently Lexan is like 250X stronger than glass and Plexi is only 10X!
I am really curious and might be attempting this on my Metro as well since 50MPG seems like all I seem to get right now... maybe I should go check my tire pressure finally!? lol

I've moved the threads that were dealing with the other style Kammback that was being discussed as it had grown into a thread-worthy topic. That new thread can be found HERE.

Rather than shuffle the threads around again, I modified the title of the other thread to include mounting of Kammbacks. Hope that helps a bit. If the need is great enough I can find some time this week to weed out the attachment threads from the other style Kammback threads.

I can't definitivly answer that, but I can say this: If maximum angle of attached flow is determined by speed, I'm going to set mine up for my highway cruising speed of 60MPH.
For Reynold's numbers we get in the real world, our drag coefficients are constant from about 20-mph on up,so the angle wouldn't vary at normal driving speeds.

Thanks for the insight, aerohead!

I am currently running me second tank sans Kammback as part of my A-B-A testing to see the improvement made from it.

Kinda sucks though that the temps have been fluctuating so much though lately. But hey, it's MN what can you do?

So what I'm thinking about this all - That's a nice Kamm first of all... a slightly steeper angle might work out a little better for you though, as was noted earlier. Would it also not work out better for you to move the sides out to the absolute side of the car, then taper in 13-15* from there?

there was mention of why the Prius had a turn-out for a deck lid on the back... the overall angle from the upper edge of the deck lid to the highest point on the top of the car is enough to keep attached flow even though there is obviously some airspace there. This is to say that even though the overall rear descent is more than 15* (is it?) the outspat (is that a word?) of the rear deck is enough to "adjust" the angle of flow descent without negatively impacting aero. Lay a piece of wood (or something) from the roof line to the tip of the spoiler-ish deck lid, and figure out how much airspace is in there... might give someone an idea...

And please, someone correct me if I'm wrong about that.
