As I always say whenever I see some confused redneck nearby, Brazil is not for beginners... They do it as a guerrilla strategy, since it presumably becomes easier to spot members of rival gangs trying to take over the control of drug-dealing points in a favela.

Some new findings...

The coronavirus shows up in raw sewage. One more reason to avoid that...
There's a blessing in it, as by monitoring and testing sewage it is possible to locate the neighborhood and ultimately the residence of previously undetected Corona patients.
https://www.kwrwater.nl/en/actueel/w...ater-research/

People who have recovered from the virus are asked to donate blood.
Their blood plasma contains antibodies which will cover the virus and thus protect high risk medical workers and new Corona patients.
This could significantly reduce transmission, IC care and death rates.

Interesting. I guess soon it will become quite irrelevant, once Coronavirus becomes "just another flu" like happened with H1N1 after some years.

Makes me wonder how long such antibodies would remain detectable on the blood samples. And probably it's also likely to speed up the development of a vaccine.

Always lower the seat and lid before you flush.

What did one learn today that one can apply to one's own [worthless] life:

Learn How Tonic Water Has Been Used For 400-Years To Fight Malaria and Viruses

As for myself, my default non-coffee drink is ginger ale+ aloe vera, but I went out and got 25 liters of Canada Dry Diet Tonic Water (no High-Fructose Corn Syrup). Ginger Ale to the back bench.

Interesting, I didn't know quinine is also an anti-malaria treatment and has all those pharmacological effects. I probably should avoid tonic water then since I have some intermittent arrhythmia.

Sounds like old people are bad with technology and cling to obsolete services that are ripping them off.

I was generalizing, and in general, the older one gets, the more likely they take the path of least resistance. I imagine the value of money decreases as people age too. Grandfather was sitting on a lot of money and never found something to enjoy it on. His last purchase was a Chevy Colorado 4x4 pickup he paid in cash. That was only after I kept insisting he spend his money on something he would enjoy.

He adopted technology pretty readily though. He had a DVR, was an early adopter of computers and the internet (before I had a computer), and was always sending me articles he had read about neat technology.

Thanks Cripple Rooster!
This article says that 99% of Americans should receive a check from the stimulus bill, hopefully starting April sixth.
Quote:
The loans would be available during an emergency period ending at the of June, and would be forgiven if the employer pays its workers for the duration of the crisis.
So, if you pay unproductive employees for three months the government will help you.
This indicates that the checks would go to people who filed tax returns for 2018 and that the payroll tax part would take money from Social Security--about 85% of Social Security funding comes from that payroll tax. Potentially this could reduce monthly checks by 23%. Could Trump's Stimulus Check Exclude Social Security Beneficiaries?

Good point on claiming my brother!
I doubt that my parents ever filed for him, he has never had a job.
Children are a $47,500 deduction:
Quote:
Checks will be reduced by $5 for every $100 exceeding those thresholds. It completely phases out at $99,000 in income for individuals, $146,500 for head of household filers with one child
A family of ten would receive up to $6,400 as long as their income is less than $479,000
Quote:
[Y]ou are still eligible for a check if you have no income or if you rely solely on non-taxable government benefit programs like Supplemental Security Income benefits, or SSI, from Social Security.
Congress likely to send taxpayers $1,200 checks in coronavirus aid. Here's who qualifies

Mom insists her $80.59 monthly retirement check will exclude her. She does not know if I can claim my brother because he also receives Social Security.

Not sure if it has something to do with my mother having been raised in Manaus where malaria is endemic, but she loves tonic water.
