Saw two today. 1997 Honda CX, 5 speed, manual steering, no rust but it's not pretty. 225k KMs (139k miles) Interior is filthy but all there. Nearly new Michelins on it. I was supposed to be getting it dirt cheap off a wholesaler, so I bought it over the phone and sent a transport company to go pick it up. They called later and said the transmission was out of it and it wouldn't move? I figured it drove onto the lot where it was, so maybe the clutch was out of it or the clutch slave had a leak etc. Called the guy back told him it was broken, so he said I could have it for scrap price. How can I say no? ha ha. Turns out it has 1st and 2nd gear, and reverse. The rest of the trans is in pieces in the bottom of the case from the sounds of it!

And here's one for MetroMPG - 1996 Metro, 1.0L, 5 speed, 200k KMs (160k miles). Fancy Yokohama snow tires all around, but 2 are almost bald and two are almost new. Guess the guy never heard of tire rotation? Its sitting in the auction parking lot, so I am guessing it will be running through on Thursday, fuzzy wooly seat covers and all!

MetroMPG will flip when he reads that. A 17 year old Metro where he lives would have disintegrated into a tiny pile of rust chunks!

Driving this for the mag:

Isuzu Mu7 (Alterra). Built on the previous-generation Chevy Colorado chassis. Capable of 48 mpg at 50 mph and 36 or so at 60. Pretty good for a brickhouse with a three-liter diesel.

Most of these global seven-seaters, they re-engineer the rear body, bringing the rear axle forward and giving it a more car-like profile. This one, they just built a new box around the bed and called it a day. This gives the thing a wheelbase longer than a Ford Expedition and similar legroom, in a truck that's still narrow enough for Asian roads.

I just realized that Econoline - gotta love the irony of the implied "economy" in that name - is a 4x4. I didn't know Ford even still offered the Econoline in a 4WD version? Or is that aftermarket?

I don't believe they were ever offered in 4x4. Cab and chassis maybe, but not an actual van. The one in that picture is a Quigley conversion.

The only American full-size vans ever available with AWD for factory, IIRC, were the Chevy Express 1500.

Saw this Tesla S at a red light today. With all the Fiskers I see, I rarely see a Tesla around here.
