Well, it looks like I won't be able to make it over to help. Seems I worked myself into the hospital. Broncitis and a GI Virus really put me down. Getting back to normal now... I'm itching to take a swing at the crazy exhaust problem!

At least you're still alive! That's a good thing, ain't it?

So how ya makin' out? Any progress today to speak of? Or did you get up at 2 am to attempt to go shopping like the rest of the consumers? LOL.
I went to NAPA to take advantage of a sale/coupon... they were sold out @ 7.30 this morning, they opened at 7.15. People had been waiting in line since 4.00 AM, and this is a town of less than 2,000 people.

No progress yet. Just went to the store for some stuff. Probably going to make the exhaust my first task. Had to get new earplugs...
Anyway, I slept in and then bought a big tv online, so there's my consumerism for the day. To be fair I have been waiting about 4 months for this day just to exploit the sale.
Cooking now, after eating I'll go out and put my nose to the angle grinder.

Here's a question for you innovative folks.
The water pump belt I got from autozone is too big. What should I do? There are no others available.

Is it the cam belt too? If so, can you either make the tensioner more adjustable, or make a second one that will take up the slack?
If it's a plain belt, you can run a string around the drive pulley and the driven pulley, tie it off, take it back to the store, and they'll usually let you browse the full line of belts they carry, so you can find the right size. They may do the same for a timing belt, just ensure that the teeth are the correct distance between them.

It's just a drive belt, as the insight engine uses a timing chain. Eventually I plan to go all electric with it. Do you think it's likely I can find a rando belt that will fit? There's no adjustment of the pulley, unfortunately.

Oh hell yeah, you can find a random belt that will fit. After adding a second alternator to my Mazda (onboard welder), I had to find a wierd belt size that wasn't ever available on the Mazda... I strung 'er up and went to Holleran's (performance store up here), and they let me go in the back and measure up a belt that I could use, and try a few on 'til I found the right size.
There are belts ranging from some 6" long (14" OAL or so) to over 100" OAL for different applications. You're not likely to find either of those sizes in the local store, but you'll probably find what you need.

Well, I'll have to poke around for that then. Also, I took a closer look at my exhaust, the S bend isn't going to happen, so I'm just gonna take off the second cat and run a pipe back. Only problem is the exhaust doesn't want to budge.
I also destroyed a LCA ball joint boot trying to get it to pop. It never did. The pickle fork also got pretty bent. So, dunno how I'm going to get that crap apart. Should've just used the LCA that was preattached to the stupid knuckle.
