I'll probably drop in the stupid IMA stuff at the last minute.

Also, I had to give up my motor mount to the stupid machine shop to see if they'd press it, so, no starting tonight. Annoying buggers. Going to try to do some more good work tonight though.

Bah humbug.

You can do it!

I like that the cluster is powered up in the shot of your back window.

SVOBoy is obviously to busy to post up, I can almost hear that little 1liter cranking away trying to start up...

Here's some teaser pic's of the axles welded up.

Well, last night I had it cranking but it sounded terrible. I had no idea why, so I just let it be since I was tired.

Today I went back and turned it over by hand a few times just to make sure the engine was smooth and intact, which it is. Then I went ahead and replaced the battery ground since it sucked, filled up the transmission with MTF, which was a pain, and some other junk. Now the starter only makes this little whiny or super clicky noise and doesn't turn the engine over. Thinking the battery might've died I have it going charging right now.

Some strange stuff:
- Last night when I was clunking the engine over I could've sworn I heard relays going nuts, I wonder if something might be blown out.
- If I hold the key in start position for like 10 seconds some of my indoor wiring starts smoking. I couldn't figure out what, just that it's coming from the massive wiring ball I've got going. Even after smoking it a bit a few times to try to track it down I couldn't find the source or any charred wires.

Needless to say, it's not been a good day so far.

However, I would like to take this time to say thanks to Ty for his awesome help the other day

Woooooey

There's one hell of a cloud of smoke in my house now. I managed to start the engine for about a second after cranking it for 5 before huge plumes of smoke rocketed out of the tailpipe and the engine bay, unfortunately drifting through the badly sealed garage door to my house.

I imagine this is all the oil I stuck down the cylinders before starting it, so I'm not worried, but it seems I might have an exhaust leak since it billowed up from the engine bay area too.

Mixed feelings; bad headache; progress.

Yesh, the oil is probably the cause of the cylinder smoke. It will do that for awhile, just so you know. You might want to get a dryer duct and tape it to your tail pipe to exhaust the smoke out a window or something.

My wife's Saturn smoked for about 20 minutes, then it cleared right up.

Congrats on starting it, though! That's awesome!

She runs! She runs!

The SGII is saying the coolant temp is only 40F, which I think is wrong. I'm a little worried since I had it running for a while and I don't think the thermostat opened, but then it didn't warm up enough for the idle to drop (though if that's running off the perhaps busted wct sensor then that might be the issue, so I shut it off. It had a big vacuum leak at first and now it seems like it has a small one, but I'm not sure, it might be due to the busted sensors and such. Also, the SG isn't reading codes.

Furthermore, gotta get some wire at the store to put on a better engine ground (currently it's just hanging off the side touching a spot and it's not contacting very well, so the idle issue might be that as well. Anyway, I don't think I'll get home and get the car ready for a test drive before dark, so I'll probably have to put that off until I do some wiring and reattachments of the lights and such.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy that it seems to be working thus far.

Also, anyone got pictures of the insight underhood so I can check my hose routing?

And I think I have an exhaust leak, I probably need a new gasket for between the cat and exhaust pipe.

engine ground

Tell me how long you need and I'll send you a nice braided ground. I got a spool 1/2 inch wide braid off ebay a while back.
