Every CFD image I've seen with stepped front wheel vents shows a lot of drag from the non-attachment area.

I wonder if that is really as large of a problem as it looks like.

Not his first rodeo. He's built a number of cars, been on Jay Leno, etc.

Can you point to an example of a stepped front wheel vent?

Benefit from a 16% reduction in drag and a
10% improvement in fuel mileage on a typical Class 8 truck
during normal, long-haul highway operations.
Looks to be the product of two-dimensional thinking, and I don't understand the "LeadEdge Top Fairing" either featured on the same page (bottom).

Could that front lip actually be creating a friendly frontal vortex?

If used in conjunction with a tractor cabin top fairing maybe it's just closing up the gap?

Video in link featuring what they call "topkit".

Simply managing this drag with our LeadEdge can add 2% to your fuel efficiency, either in combination with other SmartTruck aero systems or all by itself.
The rear bustle is interesting too.

I just watched Mission Stardust from 19xx. Lesson learned: don't trust Swedish nurses with bee-hive hairdos when they operate in pairs. The Moon mission had an excursion vehicle over-optimized for it's operating environment: Small (For three passengers) body of revolution with a long reflex tail for re-attachment, spoilt only by the open wheels. With the ever-necessary tail fin.

Mission Stardust is from a novel by Perry Rhodan. Hence the captain's name, and why it had an actual plot.

Here's everything that's not radiator mounts or the diverter:

As long as I'm in my albums, I should repost some from the book Voiture Minimum (1935)
