Well the 1/4 NPT hole is in the other side. Here shown with a gage in the hole. Had a helper hold the flapper valve shut and could only get 1 psi pressure in the exhaust system before the engine became noticeably loaded. O2 sensor is in the crossover. So far seems to give good bottom end torque. Haven't got data on a try at lean burn. (Gas got too high to test)

H pipe

A restriction should decrease volumetric efficiency. right. i want to make my engine smaller not bigger.

Open VVT creates less boost, allows more total exhaust flow. But the turbo also works off of heat, so high fuel rates=more boost as well.

Could you please plug one of the ends real good and drive for a while like that? Then report back with results on low end torque (seat of the pants) and FE.

Thanks
And note the type of dual exhaust too, H-pipe, X-pipe, common muffler, or isolated full dual exhaust.

Well, I researched this a bit and there is sound theory behind this thing.

Ehxaust throttling have been shown to increase FE and reduce emissions at low rpm / low loads by increasing internal EGR, that is having an increased residual gas fraction staying in the cylinder taking up space that would otherwise being filled by fresh air. The residual gas fraction being gas products of late combustion, they contains the most NOx and unburnt HC.

Exhaust throttling also increase the pressure and temps in the exhaust system. This could probably also help getting your cat to efficient operating temp more quickly.

The downside is the increased risk of knock as the residual gas fraction increase.

First off, this thing is pure BS (rational response, I know...).

Secondly, I don't know why anyone would want to pay $150 for a stainless steel tube with a bunch of fiberglass mesh wound up inside. The profit margin that thing must command keeps me disinterested, even if did what it claims.

Exhaust throttling sounds interesting, but can't the same be done through the EGR valve? Causing a restriction in the exhaust line is going to increase pumping losses.

I'm also lost as to how a restriction will increase VE. The only theoretical way would be utilizing Helmhotz resonance, but the catalytic converter already creates significant backpressure and the constriction would have to be sized ("tuned") to every vehicle individually. Generally, scavenging is already done through early opening of the exhaust valve.

If you want your catalytic converter to heat quickly, hack it off and reweld it so the intake tube is positioned obliquely. An angled intake tube will increase the surface area the exhaust gas strikes as it first enters the converter.
