Thanks guys I appreciate the input. I like to take my information from people with fruit on the tree, and you guys bear fruit so to speak.

I think I'll shift my focus over to a DX then.

According to this Reference: Transmission Specs - ClubCivic.com - Honda Civic Forum
- 6th gen D series (non Si) have 0.702 5th gear
- HX and D/L/CX hatchback have the taller 3.722 final drive
- DX/LX/CX sedan and coupe have 4.058
- EX has 4.250
- 92-95 VX/CX has 3.250 final drive

Si (B16) has .870 5th x 4.266 final drive = 30% higher rpm than EX.

You're squeezing some phenomenal fuel economy out of that Civic.

Awesome! It's inspiring to know what's possible.

I haven't really seen much for seventh generation civics. I've seen a few that look tempting, but want some imput first before I get serious about picking one up. There's a 2003 I'm looking at with around 200k that looks great for 3k.

For a baseline comparison of Gen 7 vs. Gen 6 Civics, you could have a look at the EPA site for the years you're considering.

Search by Model

Recognizing the different "trim" levels is nearly impossible on the EPA site, but you can decipher some of it because the HX has the highest mpgs and the Si has the lowest, in any given year. The other versions have identical or very very close EPA numbers.

Success?

Ultra Gauge fail: gauge said I had used 7.86 gallons over 609.0 miles (77.5mpg). But with my usual method (see fuel log) the pump gave me 9.14 gallons for 67.73 mpg. That's just 0.01 mpg below my all-time high. Oh! And this fill bumped my all time high out of my 90 average, so my ave did not change. Hahaha!

First time UG made such a big error. I think its because of multiple battery disconnects on the way to repairing battery and resolving charging issues. The good news is I now have two fully function 12 deep cycle batteries and the proper charging method. My alt is now always off (once again), and maybe I'll get a new high on this next cycle. But since I have to smog it, a new high will be unusually difficult.

Bummer!!

I'm a little leery of what I'll find when I refill for the same reason -- the Insight's factory MPG gauge says I'm on a record tank @ ~96 mpg. But it's always been off by some amount: ~2.5% on 3 of 5 fills, but a off by a whopping 10% on 2 of them. Fingers crossed!

Yes mine did the same when I was having battery troubles. Works great since I got a new one.

Oooooh! How'd ya go about doing that? Where'd ya put them? Any pics for us to see? I'd be super interested to see your installation!
