2015 GGP Bound!
Centurion is officially registered for the 2015 Green Grand Prix!
.
.
.
Testing this year, Centurion has a new injector pump, injectors, AND a newer Spitfire 4-speed transmission mated with the optional overdrive. The transmission swap enables the car to be truly "freeway capable". New mpg figures will be determined at the 11th Annual 2015 Toyota Green Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International Raceway.
.
Looking forward to taking photos, swapping notes, and meeting ecomodders.
This should be interesting, but most of all, a heluva lotta fun!!

I was hoping you were returning to the GGP. Bridget, my MG Midget is entered. She sports a Kubota D1105T. We Kubota race team drivers need to stick together!

Diesel MG Midget
Engine compartment of Bridget. This is my first forum so be gentle with me. My project is a 1976 MG Midget. Her name is Bridget. My first inspiration was Jack M’s Mother earth News “Max”. And now crazy Jerry! The drive train consists of a Kubota d1105t, NA Miata clutch mated to an NB Miata 6 speed. The differential is the stock 3.9. I’d like to change the diff but the cost is putting me off for now. I did invest in MGB 14” wires which gave about 11% overdrive. Currently she has about 3000 road miles. MPGs have been as low as 40 and as high as 54. The hardest part to get exactly correct was the trans to engine adapter. I would have bought one from Kenetic vehicles if I hadn’t gotten the 6 speed for free. Bridget is entered in the GGP. It’s my bday present for my big 5 oh.
PS I hope the picture uploaded

Picture is fine and the engine looks like it belongs there.

rustygirl,
Congrats on your most excellent Kubota transplant! The little Centurion could rake the hay and the larger stronger MG could bale it!
Like you, I am registered for this year's Green Grand Prix. Are you in New York or another state?
With slightly over a month away the anticipation starts to build!
In the meantime, Centurion has an inoperative clutch and a main fuse that keeps blowing if one so much as looks at it cross-eyed!
Looking forward to meeting you and "Bridget"!!

I'm down south in york, pa.
Cut the red wire, that fixed bridget. Oddly all the important lights still work. Hav you given any thought to an alternator delete switch? Won't help the fuse issue but may help mileage. I'm going to disconnet the electric fuel pump and if the mechanical pump can feed the engine i may try it.

rustygirl,
Yes, I have an alternator cut and used it last year - I recommend it.
As long as your fuel level will gravity feed to the mechanical fuel pump you should be ok. If you want to give it a test, unhook your elec fuel pump, then go find a steep uphill. If Bridget starves out for fuel, then your mechanical pump can't lift very well and you'll need the electric also. I have both (same as you) but Centurion's fuel tank/fuel level is way higher than the mechanical pump's inlet so the electric is primarily used during a fuel filter change or to purge the system of air..
Can't tell from your photo - but do you have a decompressor?
The fuse issue here is in the glow-plug and starter solenoid loop. New glow plugs may be a little "hotter" than the 1981 model, and the solenoid may have taken on some condensation - will deal with that tomorrow.
The clutch master is the original 1966 unit so it's due for rebuild or replacement. Time to throw a blanket over the baby and call it a night
