If you are so bothered by a patrol car with its engine running while the officer is on duty I suggest you address your complaint to the chief of police in your community. I'd like to hear the reply you receive.

I wasn't complaining. I was just stating some facts.
It's your right to find facts absurd.
To me, your posts are coming across as absurd.
You were basically telling the O.P. that he was legally wrong for his attempt to be efficient.
I pointed out the irony.
Wait until the police can start handing out tickets for waste, inefficient driving, crimes against the environment, etc... leaving their vehicles running non-stop all the while.
Personally I don't care that the police are wasteful. If I spent a whole shift in a squad car I'd want to have the A/C on all the time too. It would be a real shame for them to be smelling bad when they approach other people.

The only fact you stated (assuming your report is accurate) is that the patrol car was left running. It is your opinion that it was wasteful and unnecessary.

And he is, whether we like it or not. What is bad about that?
What irony is that? The police are not legally required to operate in an "efficient" manner, nor are they required to satisfy your idea of how they should best operate.

If ever the police "can" enforce intrusive laws, you should blame your legislators for that and your fellow citizens who first would have supported the enactment of legislation that is intrusive. Police only enforce laws - they don't make the law. Your statements about this amount to emotionally charged fantasy and are nonsensical.

Then why did you bring it up? And why don't you let it go?

I'm hardly a big fan of cops, but I'm not anti-police, either. And with all that you continue to say, it is what smells bad - with an odor of anti-police bias.

Probably just answering your opinionated accusations and erroneous assumptions, but you win.
Where is the no thanks button ?

I think cop cars should have thermos bottles like Prii so that they can be shut down for a good long while yet come up to operating temp very quickly for that pedal-to-the-metal chase.

I'm not looking over my shoulder just to see drivers' faces, I only see them while glancing at the car. And I glance more often at cars that behave erratically when in my vicinity since they are more likely to be a safety hazard.

...I see people
...I see people gestering skyward with a "single-digit salute"
...of course, I assume they're all anxiously telling me their IQ number (one).

On my last trip I got 1 "single digit salute" from a person who did not like me going 53 in a 55 zone. This person had to wait 2 miles to pass me, then 3 more miles down the road tuned into a driveway. My though was, himm I could have coasted most of the way to that drive way.
I also got on this trip two thumbs up! I thought one of them might have been a fellow ecomodder but no mods or scangauge on his car
I also had 3 or 4 questions on what I did to my car.

I get mostly odd looks, some thumbs-up/waves, one younger pair laughing/taking cell phone pics, but mostly people just going around me. I try not to get in the way, but I'm not speeding for someone behind me. I'll slow down in a passing lane to give them the hint. When stopped, lots of questions, lots of compliments. Some laughs.
Most of my driving has two lanes in my direction, so they can easilly go around. I'll drive 5 under in that case.

When given the finger, smile and wave at them (with genuine gusto). It's disarming. It will cause them bewilderment or confusion. Most likely they will have never seen that in response to their intended insult.
If they point a camera at you, be flattered. Smile and wave even more. It will be on the record that you were being friendly, not combative.
If they point a gun at you... (well, that's actually extremely unlikely - so no point in engaging in a negative fantasy, if unnecessary.)

I already do # 1 and 2. Never had 3 happen (do not want it to).
If it did, I would hit the break (make him miss). Depending on what is around (down range) I might send some hot lead back his way in self defense.
