BDC would get eaten alive over at SomethingAwful or Devious Tyrant in my opinion. I used to hang with a lot of forum people like this and learned to not get involved. I know what I am capable of and respect myself too much to stoop to that level of internet arguing anymore.

I'll throw my self on that!

The Aptera is the first EV I have been impressed enough with to consider buying
it looks pragmatic and really "doable" without penalties

but is it going to make it to the real world?

Handouts? That looks like pretty savvy venture capital money to me.

I hope you are right

I was referring to the "Google's philanthropic arm" giving cash
I'm sure Google has a venture capital or business development arm too
but this sounds more like a donation

And that's the problem! Only a ton of Americans (2% of the US population) ever bought fuel-efficient cars that were manufactured. And responding as any joint-stock corporation would, they placed their emphassis on manufacturing other things which would sell.

I was having the same conversation with a friend the other day. For a sub-$30K price tag, it will plausibly deliver breakthrough MPG. All the other EV designs seem to be compromises that are not "car-ish" enough or don't deliver breakthrough MPG. I think (with fingers crossed) that the Aptera bypasses "trying to be a car" and might deliver on the MPG front.

At the current rate any changes to America's energy crisis is going to take decades to occur and meanwhile gas will be over $10 barrel by then which is why we need true leadership and a vision to truthfully become independent of foreign Arab oil. Not BS like this .18 cent gas tax holiday for a couple of months, what a crock.

What this country really needs is a leader who will not back down from removing the billions in oil subsidies and transferring them to electric car manufacturer's like the makers of the Aptera as well as Wind and Solar power plant producers. At the same time cut all the regulations surrounding new nuclear plants, refineries, and allow more drilling to boot. We need it all, but the only real solution is to move away from fossil fuel based consumption and towards renewable consumption. One strong move like that from the new president and I guarantee you GAS will immediately fall to under $3/gallon because the speculators will know America is finally serious on permanent renewable energy.

There is a very good reason why one of the candidates refuses to accept lobbyist money and the other's campaign is majority funded by lobbyists (and received another 2 million from the oil lobby just last week). Don't listen to their words, just follow the money to know who's pocket they are really in.
