Today'a annoyance - we have teams in offices - one for projects, one for development. I'm in the latter one and alone today.

So guess what, when you try and call my phone and its engaged its highly unlikely I will be available answer the other one you called because you got the busy tone on the first, even if you call back every 30 seconds.

Of course the building is only 200 feet long so you could walk round instead.

But if you do then don't be too surprised if you are ignored because

I'M ON THE B***DY PHONE!

Surekly thats good?

Chance to lie on the couch, with the duvet, requesting that you be fed chicken soup at regular intervals, and that beer is "medicinal"

and dont forget "the limp"

I find that Top Gear episodes go very well with beer, medicinally speaking. **cough** I may be coming down with something myself.

Back on the annoyance topic. I used to work for a PHB whose idea of scheduling was simple: leave everything until the last possible moment, then:
  • declare an emergency
  • demand that your minions do the work you failed to do
  • demand that the work be performed within the next hour
Now in a new position, I thought I was rid of him. But nnnnoooooooo. My new team sometimes relies on his group for tasks. He is still up to the same tricks, only now instead of waiting for the emergency declaration, I anticipate his inaction and do his work for him in a more timely manner.

It still grates at me.

I just got home from a one week road trip.
Unfortunately, I had an evil tire w a horrible wobble which wore me down on the last day of the trip until I could do something about it.

So yesterday, I go to my local nationally known tire shop chain, get the LOSER tire identified, and have it replaced.

The person servicing my car was younger, but I know he works there daily, and has been there at least two yrs. or so.

I get home, which thankfully is only 2-3 miles from tire shop.

I go to adjust their 32psi to my 41-42, when I see the valve stem is not at all even in it's 3 inch window pane in the hubcap, but it's bent over, pinched and pinned behind the next section of hubcap!

On my car, (this is the CRX) all four lugnuts must be totally removed for the hubcap to move an inch anywhere!

I do now have a fine floor jack, and have used a star wrench for yrs., so my fix was no big deal, but a non car person would never have noticed anything, until the stem would have eventually been cut off, leaving a miserable roadside event inevidable!

It just makes you wonder!

At least a half dozen times in my life; I've had to fix at home some boner that a place charging me mucho bucks an hr., that at supposed to be professionals; just blow it!!!

Some of you must have your horror stories as well!

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks KC!

Here's a special THANKS to the Streets and/or Water Department(s) of Kansas City, Missouri -- for leaving a water access plate with the pavement cut largely, sharply, and deep around it (to do whatever the heck), AND LEFT IT OPEN with no cover or hot patch.

So I drive along, see it, try to miss it, and KA-BLAMM! No such luck. It knocked the TSX way out of alignment and luckily didn't cut the tire or bend the rim. I'm really working this car's FE to 32mpg (up from 26) on this tank and now the alignment is making it harder to track and maintain momentum. Grr. THANKS!

Meh, it needs new rear tires and alignment anyway. I need to shop for low RRs, preferably Michelins (not having luck with other brands).

So, if you're driving up Holmes Rd. North from I-435 before Bannister -- LOOK OUT!

Postscript: Normally you can submit a claim to State and Local municipalities to pay for damages. Kansas City? Good luck. If it was on a State Highway or Interstate, MODOT has a great record of getting folks compensated. A dishonorable mention to city of Belton, MO, for leaving a construction project unprotected and taking out 2 tires, motor mountS, and alignment 5 years ago. Pictures were taken, etc, but no compensation. THANKS!

So THANKS to those responsbily for the crappy road conditions -- you know who you are
