im about to check the fluid in it for sure.its that brighter bolt in the middle of the above picture right? all iv read online is you take out the bolt stick finger in there and check and see if theres anything.i think its low but dont have the complete funds at the moment to refill it up with fluid and replace the axle seal. kinda running on a tight budget so can do one small thing a paycheck.

ill tell ya one thing driving this vx definetely beats the buick. i was going thru 20 in gas ever 2 days or so. now its like 20 bucks in gas every week maybe week and a half and i drive around a lottttttttt

it is to the point where it is dripping a little fluid so im trying to figure out getting the part and fluid asap.so i called one dealership near me and they seemed confused when i said "vx". they didnt have the part or any mtf fluid. the fluid was on order since theyd been going through a bunch of it. I called another dealership up in a town nearby and said the model and everything of the car and he said there is no such thing as vx. after arguing for a few seconds he looked it up and found it.rediculous.i didnt realize how rare this model is

so really i just want to check and see if the fluid is really low that i should worry about it. i just wanna make sure i remove the right bolt to check. can someone link me to a picture of it?

It's rare. But they should know it, if they claim to know anything about Hondas. Honda says that in a pinch you can use 10w40. But everybody with experience says all the transmissions bolt up to any of the engine blocks, of any trim, accross the whole D series engine run, 1992-2000. So I would anticipate this is true of the inner cv boot's seals as well; you should be able to get what you need. Good luck!

I used a broom handle duct taped to a breaker bar and I broke the broom handle trying to get mine off. I ended up "dropping" the car (gently) onto the breaker bar to knock it loose. =P

If you're still unsure I'll take a picture of it when I get home from work. I believe the drain plug is the one that fits a 3/8" socket wrench (it's a square hole), and the fill plug is above it and off to the side (left?) and uses a socket. When filling the transmission, add fluid to the fill hole until it starts to come out the fill hole with the car sitting level.

Yes it's the big bright one there shouldnt be a square bolt there. Who ever had that it is wrong. If it's that tight try to actually tighten it a little more. Try to break the crust I guess. It has worked for me many a times. You should be under the car trying to loosen the bolt. Yes remove bolt if fluid doesn't come pouring out it's low. Use a funnel up top with a pice of rubber hose going into the hole. The grind is most likely the bearing. Very common they all seem to go the axle seals are directional so right and left are diffrent. If truly in a pinch you could just remove the speed sensor and the drain plug. Drain all fluid and fill from the speed sensor. It would be empty you would add 2 quarts I think. Get the Honda mtf. It's the same for all the manual d series's trans 92-2000. Possible even the efs as well (88-91). If you weren't so far i would tell you just to bring it over.

You could also put a wrench on the bolt hold it there put hand on wrench right on bolt and use a hammer to lightly tap repeatedly on wrench to help try to break it free.

There are good turorials on youtube for changing transmission oil in the civic. Here is the one I used, and your 5th gen civic will be the same:
