If you consider CO2 then it is fairly directly proportional to mileage. The VX had lower C02 than almost every car made today, not considering the aero improvements that would drop the levels significantly lower.
NOX might be higher if measured as a percentage of exhaust without regards to the volume of the exhaust, but the amount would be much closer if you account for the higher mileage due to better aero.

But its my understanding that the VX had to have its oxygen sensor modified for use in California because it could not pass emissions due to the excess pollution while in lean burn. If this car is spending a large portion of time in lean-burn, I have my doubts about how clean that it is.
Where is the point that you break even - is a pre LEV car getting 75 mpg as clean as an SULEV that gets 55 ?

Lean burn was not employed on California versions of the VX. Sacrifice some NOX for much more CO2.
MPG about 6 less than Fed versions.

I sometimes like reading the discussions at the linkback forums.
What surprises me is, among the expected ridicule, there are more than a few individuals in the traditional "performance" community who express respect for basjoos' initiative & results. They see his goals as a "different kind of performance", no less valid than their performance aims.

If mike added an aftermarket spoiler to it, they'd probably like it. They can keep their american-rice rides.

When I am talking with a "performance" car enthusiast, I tell them my car is patterned after a Bonneville salt flats land speed car and the all of the mods on my car are those used on the salt flats speedsters to reduce aero drag. That I did the mods for their great improvement to the high speed performance of my car and that the mileage improvement is just a fringe benefit of the mods. That just like their wet dream is a street legal NASCAR or Rally car, my wet dream is a street legal Bonneville land speed car.
Of course, when I am talking with a "greenie", I tell them I did it for the mileage improvement and that the high speed performance improvement is just a fringe benefit. Its just two sides of the same coin.

Agreed, 2003protege. I'm looking forward to seeing the Aptera in production. Only thing is I'm in TX and they will not sell here for a while. They use all the mods basjoos used and more. Maybe they copied him! Yes?
