I imagine there must be a lot of lift involved especially in higher speeds.

I miss that guy.

I feel exactly the same.
I like to think he's a lurker.

My solution for downforce on Thee Template:

Superelliptic cross section and a truncation that incorporates a passively suctioning bellmouth. It might be beneficial for minimizing downforce (vs usable interior volume) if the superellipse were rotated 45°, that would minimize the upward facing surface.

Yes, active wings would be needed at higher speeds, maybe even a rudder to fight side winds.

Adding anything is antithetical to the purpose. That's why it is a thought experiment that has no relation to the needs of a ground vehicle. Lighting, licensing, ingress/egress and sight lines all need to be accommodated.

More successful are the Morelli body and the spatted ellipsoids you see in solar and human powered vehicles.

And maybe the exponential b*tt trumpet I showed in Permalink #629.

Would it be more effective if your ground effects bellmouth began near the front axle, and your humans sat to either side of it? I assume (yes, I know) this would be a four wheeler, as a reverse trike layout would place a wheel in the bell mouth area, and disturb the effect.

Whenever I think about highspeed stability of the template I think of the HASPORT first Gen Insight crash at El Mirage in 2013... that was about 200 mph. An active wing for super high speeds might have prevented the incident, I imagine.

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

Yes, Buckminster Fuller and his Dymaxion.

Dymaxion was a full body of revolution with it's nose up in the air.

His intent was that the tail wheel would lift at speed and it would mimic a tail-dragger airplane between taxiing and rotation.

Closer would be the Schlorwagen

Even it softens the hard chine at the lower edge.

If there were zero air intruding under the Template, would it experience lift, or would it be burrowing under the air like a mole (or vole) in you yard?

Mr. Beard, how does the bloated noodle work with a reverse trike?
