Why would you want to do 80 in one? Come to think of it, why even 60?

Faster is always better.
I've done 160 on my motorcycle, and thought it would be nice if it went a little faster.

Then there is the whole getting from A to B part.

PDX (Portland) to OGG (Maui) is about 5hrs on a commercial jet. We need to develop RAM or SCRAM technology in the commercial sector. A 2hr flight is more reasonable.
The Concorde crash was 2 tragedies, the crash, and then the subsequent elimination of the only supersonic commercial transportation.
I'm with Peter Thiel at his dismay of lack of progress (and regression). I'm in my 40s and nobody has set foot on another heavenly body during this time, or even exited earth orbit. No new commercial supersonic planes have been developed within my lifetime.
We need to be going from point A to point B, and quickly.

Well that escalated quickly!
I'm a fan of Ian Hubert's work, even if it's a little incomprehensible. I watched a few episodes of Dynamo, and in one of them they had a VW Westfalia camper with a jet engine strapped to the roof.

The new F130 turbofans fitted to the B-52 don't count?
Something is suspicious. When we came back from the Moon we burnt the blueprints. What's up with that?

Cars keep you dry, cool / warm, and are less fatal when things go south. They also tend to be able to carry 4-5 passengers and luggage.
Motorcycles are more fun / cars are more practical.

Kinda like how we burnt the blueprints for building nuclear power plants after the 70s. At one point we knew how to build them relatively quickly and relatively inexpensively, and then forgot all that. Apparently it was cheaper/easier to engineer them with a slide rule and pencils than using calculators and engineering software.
I'm worse than a curmudgeon, as they only complain that things were better back in their day. I say things were better before my day. How would I know?

I commuted by motorcycle year-round for 15 years with no problem. Only stopped because of a leg that can no longer hold up a bigger motorcycle.

Sounds about right to me. Often wonder what being a teen during that time frame would have been like. Cruising to the burger joint in a car that will become a classic sounds like the bees' knees.
