Heat hasnt been as a bad as it was last week. I have been working under shade trees.

Jethro are you going to run a straight pipe exhaust and an intercooler? around here a turbo meets the requirements for a muffler. You are a truck mechanic?

Engine is normally aspirated, so no intercooler needed. I bought all new exhaust from the cat back last year, including both mufflers, so I'm going to leave them, remove the cat, and replace it with straight pipe.

Yes, I'm a Freightliner tech.

I have had my jetta (with a stock body) to a bit over 90. What do you think yours might do? Of course the salt flats are 3500 feet higher.

As a reference point our bicycle went 50 in Iowa on a public road in high humidity on a hot day with the bubble off it. Two weeks later went 66 at battle mountain About 3500 feet higher altitude.

No idea. Once I get running, I'll see if i can find a mile long stretch of level road and give it a shot.

90 as a top speed shouldn't be difficult to hit, she rolls REAL easy.

No picks yet of the ride in your album, but I'm sure they'll appear when you get closer to the trek. Can't wait to see it run at Bonneville.

No pics as it still isn't roadworthy. I just got it running at around 2:30 this afternoon, but I think it's running out of fuel as it slowly dies after about a minute after starting. It restarts fine, but slowly dies again. Starting at half throttle gets the engine up to about 1200rpm then slowly dies. Either the fuel line is too restrictive or the lift pump in the injector pump is weak. I'm voting for weak pump and am going to get an electric inline pump tomorrow.

Jethro, I am learning something new every day. So there is an aux pump in the injection pump to pull the fuel through the line. I had trouble getting mine started a few weeks ago. Found out that I was getting air in the line. Different symptoms though.

If your tank is from your gas car don't you have a in-the-tank pump or did you take it out?

It is alive!! Drinks all around!
The electric pump gave her the boost to stay running long enough for everything to smooth out and run normally( after about 5 minutes). A few leaks here and there( not my work) and one of the injectors is loose but, I got to drive it around the shop a few times in celebration. Now some finishing of wiring( routing, cleaning out the extras,...), exhaust, a couple short trips and then we head out on the highway. Hopefully by this weekend.
