So... You are saying you didn't watch it because he doesn't say useful things?

The prototype assembly line at Austin Gigafactory will be replicated in Mexico. They will put the door card on the door, put the door in it's frame and then slap the whole side of the car on at once. No more trying to work inside a complete shell.

I'm saying I've watched at least 2 full videos of his, and he doesn't apply rules of thumb appropriately, but instead mashes them into the things he's enthusiastic about.

For that reason, his videos fall under my "entertainment" category rather than the "information" category.

As an analogy, when I want to be entertained on the topic of cars, I watch Doug DeMuro. When I want to be informed, I watch Alex Dikes.

All that is the long way to say I didn't watch the video...

I'll watch and see if there's anything surprising to me.

Alright, I watched and learned that battery costs may be at all time lows this year despite them increasing last year. We're seeing a horizontal asymptote though in battery pricing, meaning we shouldn't expect batteries to cost 80% less in the next 10 years.

...he's got another video (among the ones I've watched) where he claims a battery surplus due to EVs not selling. Well, that would certainly drive battery prices lower. If demand were high, so too would be the prices.

I've recently seen clips (Sandy's channel) highlighting assembly efficiencies Tesla has developed. Pretty slick to build from the inside out with large modular pieces.

Speaking of entertainment:

Restaurants and cars destroyed in South Africa! Mini tsunami in Gordon's Bay, Cape Town

Clickbait title, it was a storm surge not a tsunami.

But it does raise (not beg) the question, why don't people who live on a coast not drive amphibious vehicles?

I wonder why people live on coasts, but then many like it. My preference is to visit and then leave.

Coastal structures always seem to be in varying states of disrepair. I'd want a vehicle made of fiberglass and aluminum if I lived there (sounds amphibious).

My parent's house consisted of (top to bottom) an aluminum-framed pentagonal skylight, hand-split cedar shakes with stainless steel staples, stainess steel flashing and a stone wall. No paint, just stain on the window casings.

Were I to live there, I'd see it as an excuse to drive something like:

Or maybe this cedar dug-out soapbox derby racer:

The Haida Canoe and the Vikings of the Pacific Northwest
Feb 28, 2015 Before the arrival of Europeans, the Haida were the dominant culture among coastal First Nations in Canada's Pacific Northwest, and their unique war canoes were a key reason. With plentiful food and towering evergreens on Haida Gwaii, the natives there had the time and resources to develop a boat like no other in the region.

Living on the coast has advantages weather wise: no really hot or cold days for the majority of time. Some houses in LA didnt and still don't have heaters or A/C. Grow a food producing garden year round. Don't own a winter coat........ you do need to be high enough to avaoid winter surges of water.

200 miles north of LA, there's places where the only time you can see your neighbor is at the grocery store

My parent's geodesic dome at Walport, OR, had no air conditioning. My brother said he showed up on a winter day after it had been vacant for some number of weeks, unheated, and when he went it it was comfortable.

I had friends in South Park, CO (where I saw -51 °F one day when I had lived there) and they had a geo-dome on a south-facing slope with a large concrete floor sun room on the bottom that they could leave without heat for weeks at a time during mid winter and none of their plants or pipes would freeze. It was also very cheap to heat when they did heat it.

Yup. Fuller described the dome as an 'environmantal valve'.

I haven't run heat a single time since I turned it off in May. I've been opening the blinds and letting the sun heat the house during the day up to about 75 degrees, and by morning it has cooled down to 69. I may be able to get to October without running heat. One year I managed to November without running heat.

No more AC until next summer, either. This year we consumed 791 kWh ($100) on AC.
