I didn't say cosmic rays were going to do anything to people on the surface.
But now that you mention it, it would appear that Wikipedia is a little out of date on the subject.

No offense to anyone, I also use Wikipedia sometimes. But... we were banned from ever using Wikipedia in college, just saying.

Lots of Wikipedia haters from the early days still around. Completely unjustified to doubt it now for anything that is not a biography. I give them money since I make use of it so much.

I always wondered why colleges banned Wiki as a source. Their argument is that anyone could contribute material and edit the info. How is that worse than a guy deciding to write a book?

It is such an easy ban to circumvent.

Use Wikipedia.

Then do what you're supposed to do whether you're researching in print or online. Read the references to find the original source material to verify the article's accuracy to that source material.

Then list THOSE source materials in your research bibliography.

It makes no sense to ban wikipedia. It makes more sense to warn the students to follow the links at the end to find the original sources.

Then they would be teaching students to think for them selves. Can't have that.
Much better to turn out drones that will obey.

I am pretty sure that I have seen people on here that have discredited Wikipedia for the very same reason. Has anyone here actually edited Wikipedia? I have attempted to correct grammar and ended up with my own version of the page that nobody could see unless they specifically looked for it.

I think the only reason to cite a source you dislike is to attempt to discredit the information. I feel like people regularly reject what I tell them even if I cite the source. They may tell me to stop watching Fox News, but I never cite Fox. However, sometimes I see a Fox story and either find their source or look for someone credible that confirms or contradicts the statement.

Does Aerohead just share his vast knowledge with us or does he give us sources (that are not Wikipedia and Fox News)?

Wikipedia is attacked because it was and is a disruptive technology. Like many others, it was attacked by those whose stood to lose. And 'sovereign citizens' happily fall in line. Happens all the time.

I haven't ever edited Wikipedia, but when I find that copy of Oregon Times with the article on the Oregon Electric Railway, I'll edit the Wikipedia entry because it doesn't reflect the perfidy of GM and the others in the Great Streetcar conspiracy.

The wood-paneled cars were the ultimate in clean, quiet travel — the 1913 equivalent of a Hyperloop.

Why do people pick on Fox? My friends upriver don't even think its news. Don't they show it on broadcast TV? There seems to be a spectrum from CNN to Fox; they all look the same to me.

Kind of like watching TV weather compared to Suspicious Observers.

I had wondered about the durability of wind turbines. This study shows that there will be large reductions in capacity factor in only 10 years if you don't take the maximum effort to repair them. Which the UK is not doing very well compared to Denmark for example.
.
https://stopthesethings.files.wordpr...s-19-12-12.pdf
.
And offshore windfarms start with a much higher capacity factor but fall to below onshore values in just 8 years losing half of their capacity in that time. Due to a much harsher operating environment and greater difficulty of maintenance?
.
It would be interesting to see how much ongoing expense Denmark wind farm operators are spending on upkeep as a percentage of the original capital cost.
.
I wonder what declining output with age for the turbines in a brutally snowy climate like mine would look like where the best wind is also in areas like the Tug Hill Plateu at the end of Lake Ontario which is pummeled by 150-200 inches of wet lake effect snow every winter. Probably close to the degradation rates of off shore wind.
.
Wind energy is not renewable. It is rebuildable. As long as we have the affordable liquid fossil fuel for the gigantic machines that are required to install and repair these towering mega-turbines.
