I've taken I-44 across Missouri so much that I think I'm recognizing billboards, let alone the hypermiler track. Got mid 30s, thanks to a somewhat clear, 40-50 degree day.
Some of those Ozark hills still suck though.

I've been testing out some new routes to work for the past several weeks. The old route seemed like an obvious choice: a four lane road that runs alongside a rail yard that guarantees no cross traffic from the one side, but it has too much low speed village driving.

The new route is more hectic, with higher speeds, much more traffic, and lower mpg. But it's undeniably a faster way to get to work. So, I'll be studying the route, timing the lights, learning the lean burn engagement points and where to change lanes or shift to neutral. MPG has been highly variable so far: 50-70mpg in conditions that would net me 65-80mpg on the old route. Sometimes it seems like I get up to 50mph just as the light is about to turn red, and other times, it's all well-timed coasts to a stop.

In addition to taking less time, the new route is also a shorter distance, so the mileage penalty isn't quite as bad as it sounds.

Nice work, freakazoid. What would you say was your cruising average speed?

I took a ~80 km round trip in the Flea today to pick up a used wood stove. (Couldn't have stuffed that in a Honda Insight!!)

Ideal Sunday driving conditions on nearly empty rural roads in perfect weather netted ~73 mpg (US) at about ~45 mph average. Driving with load on the open road, EOffC to stops & turns. A very pleasant drive.

I started hearing an exhaust leak, though.... Think the 13 year-old original pipes might be due for some work.

I had to go down and pick up a motorcycle engine today. Took the 1999 camo windstar van. Averaged 28 mpg over almost 500 miles. Best since I started measuring. Has 160k miles. Original exhaust system. Ambient temperature was in the 50s

Varn - decent round trip numbers for a minivan.

I just installed a block heater, and I've been driving with load (15in.Hg cruise), to great effect. Two tanks in a row above 35mpg, which is new ground for me.

Motivation for an undertray is building! My car has a high front bumper, and I'd like to preserve the clearance for logging roads, so I'm going this route rather than the air-dam route.

I drive back roads to work and it being a Sunday the roads were empty.
Also had some nice temps in the mid 70's helping me out.
Was doing a 5th gear pulse from 40 mph to 55 mph and then EOC back down.

Today with work traffic, very little EOC and temps in the 60's I averaged 50 mph and got about 53 mpg.

It has been a polarizing past few days. One the one hand, I found myself relying on map-memory, which resulted in me taking a wrong turn in a city area, which meant lots of 1st and 2nd gear stop&go.

On the other hand, I made my commute home tonight without ever coming to a complete stop (unless you count maneuvering into my driveway). I hit three lights, but timed them all well enough so that they turned green before I arrived.

Part of it is luck though. One driver tipped off a timed green for me.

I think tank mpg took a hit from city, and from some harder than average acceleration, but tonight made me feel a little better.
