So, two stories,

One is I have noticed the increase in motorcycles, but the downfall of that is most of the people on them got their license when they were 17 which was 30 years ago and they haven't touched a bike since. I tend to find a lot more idiots on motorcycles, my dad rides and I'm getting my license so I tend to be extremely careful around them and they tend to not be so careful.

Two, I have seen a large influx in Priuses recently, I know the State of New York has bought a couple for their state cars. I also know I've been passed by just as many Priuses going 75mph as I have any other car, so like other people have said, buying a Prius with an EPA of like 55mpg or whatever and my Civic still probably gets better mileage because of how they drive it.

Yeah but think of the MPG you could get in a Prius knowing how to drive it...

It's a weird phenomenon, but I have noticed more driver's "hypermiling" and more driver's being overly aggressive.

I did a 230 mile road trip on the intersate mostly at night were the speed limit is 65 mph. I would say that I did not see anyone driving under 75-80 mph including the 18 wheelers. So it appears in this neck of the woods that there is not much change.

I got drafted by a semi today.. ok, maybe he was just in a hurry..lol

I did EOC up to a suv traveling at sub speed limit speeds today.. that kind of ticked me off.. I'm just rolling with gravity and some dude had to make me use the brakes.. he wasnt turning or anything just going 45 in a 55.. if he was a hyper miler hes doing a poor job, use that gravity in that 4k lbs beast..

i've noticed more and more people are starting to slow down on the highway at least staying around 70. i remember when i used to do 70 and it seemed like every single person and their grandmother was passing me. i have also noticed some people trying to creep a red light, not much but more than before. though i could just be noticing it because i am doing it my self?

The only change in traffic I've seen is the yearly change when the school year ends, which always seems to result in less traffic.

IMO, there are too many variables to say it's because of fuel prices, especially in areas where public transportation isn't an option and folks still have to get to work, etc.

I just got back from my trip to Cleveland from lexington, KY. I think we counted a total of eight suburbans the entire trip. Ours didn't count... It is funny to be one of the few larger vehicles on the road. I had a few cars tagging right behind me around Columbus, OH. I thought they wanted me to get out of the way until they followed me into the slow lane. Cool, this one little honda stuck right behind me when I was running 80 getting 25mpg

I have noticed in NC that there is no change. But I am more shocked that more have not started slowing down. I honestly think it is b/c they wiegh time as if it more important than mpg. My opinion is, no matter how high gas goes the mass will not slow down. I think the fact of giving yourself more time can elimanate so many stresses not just $. I see a lot of crazy drivers in my line of work. People killing themselves and others, speeding and rushing. For what? A few minutes of saved time can end someones life forever.... I have seen this happen from 18yrs olds to 50yr olds. The worst I see in my area as far as speeding is the tow truck guys. We call them out to a wreck and they act like they can break the law getting to us. One wrecker truck T-boned a Toyota Avalon and The driver of the Avalon was killed and messed up the passenger pretty good. The wrecker driver lived and so did the passenger. One of the wrost collisions I have seen. I wish I could get the mass public to see what I have seen.

Oh yeah I hate 18 wheelers and people who drive trucks agressively. What are they thinking? "If i hit this guy I will be ok"? Sorry to break your heart you are going to be hurting too.

Oh well I am done... =)

I think people have slowed down some. That's saying something around here, we're a major nexus of two big interstate routes and we've got 18-wheelers pouring through at all hours. Now, though, the trucks aren't racing past 20 mph faster than the rest of us. They're only 10mph faster. Still can't catch one to draft him, dang it.
