If the tailgater is a Semi it get the hell out of the way since I live in a hilly area, others I slow down more than I like and resume speed when they back off or pass.

There is always the option that my fiancée uses in the Ford Ranger that had gearing for pulling and just hit the emergency flashers for a second saying back the F*** up.

I wouldn't do something to piss off anything with a GVWR as much as my house for certain.

But anything under 4000 lbs is fair game

I refer you to my previous post (#140), and reiterate two words: "calculated risk".

I didn't have time to read all 16 pages, but in the daylight I just pop on my headlights. It kinda looks like brake lights from the back. They slow down and I keep going. Puts a little distance between us and makes them think.

p.s. I have always wanted to make an LED sign that read "Back Off" and hook it up to a switch on the dash. Would that be blunt enough?

I do understand the frustrations of on both sides of the fence on this one. I for one seldom drive 70 MPH on the freeway (more like a little above 60) and locally on several two lane roads I drive you find some putz doing 35 in a 50 and no chance to pass for miles. Grrr, I try to remember that patience and mercy are virtues. If I have the road to myself I often putter more than being in a hurry.

I've seen a lot of road rage and yup had the big truck up my tailpipe even when I was doing a couple over in several speed zones. It will tick you off either way when someone else is driving inconsiderate of others. Drivers ed used to teach that when you drive that you may be right and the other guy wrong and you might end up "Dead" right and a grease splat. Using wisdom when your and others safety is involved seems only prudent.

I'm not saying these quotations apply in this situation but it's food for thought in any confrontation.

Do not ever say that the desire to "do good" by force is a good motive. Neither power-lust nor stupidity are good motives. - Ayn Rand

Stupidity cannot be cured with money, or through education, or by legislation. Stupidity is not a sin, the victim can't help being stupid. But stupidity is the only universal capital crime; the sentence is death, there is no appeal, and execution is carried out automatically and without pity. - R. Heinlein

And yes, sometimes I wonder how I've lived so long.

I normally coast down for tailgaters and they pass. If they are being dumb/stupid/mean about it then they get a brake check. Plain and simple.

BTW Issac, NICE mpgs on the olds 88. I owned a sister to your car once, a 91 LeSabre, and thought 20 mpg was pretty good for such a big car!

When I'm tailgated I don't do anything. I continue on my merry way at my chosen speed and eventually the tailgater will back off, pass, or take his exit. I've never been hit from behind by an overanxious tailgater.

I get tailgated, I make sure there is enough cushion in front of me so that I can slow safely. There are trucks out there that I can see under through my rear view mirror! They usually get the hint and go around soon enough.

Don't let the other guy drive your car.

People in front of you are Idiots, people behind your are a$$h0les.
