On a side note, I know that most engine covers are meant for NVR (Noise and Vibration Reduction).
Could well be. Both engines have the same one though and if anything the Aygo is smaller and, er, tinnier

They both have the same intake, except the Sirion has the additional tube. What is it for ?

I'm wondering if its a temp control intake, maybe lets air in from near the exhaust when cold and then from behind the grill when warm.

This guy did a test of intake temps for a C1 (identical engine and car).

And of course silly question - should I go warm or cold intake ? Or from Mrs A's point of view, is the Dyson safe

Edit - Another test from the same guy as above. I'm not a K&N / Sparco fan for obvious reasons (no FE benefit).

It doesnt look like It varies its intake location at all on the Sirion..

And for petrol cars you want Warm Air Intake for fuel economies

Hence my mod of blockages. The intake sits just behind the upper grill nostrils, so my covers will nicely shield it. I've decided against the bold approach and have some black zip-ties from work to use instead.

Now if it was a little warmer outside I would go and fit them, but instead I am cosied up next to an electric heater...

Looking at the Link you gave me for Coroplast, I reckon I'll just silicone on the blocks to the grill..

My WAI will be more complicated as I'll have to go accross the front of the engine to get to the exhaust manifold

Wouldn't silicone will be a pain to remove ? The nostril covers are small and rigid enough I think, but I'll keep an eye on them.

Not sure I'm going to need much more for a WAI, this guy found the temps are high anyway even with a tube from behind the grill fitted.

Quote:
So today the outside temperature while driving to work was about 15C. While looking at my scangauge I saw the intake air temperature.

It was 34C. Which is quite a lot higher then the outside temperature. This could mean 2 things. Either the air being sucked in to the intake track is warm or the air gets heated up while in the intake track.

I already ruled out the first one. I added a hose to the point where the engine picks up air and routed it to the gril. No difference in air temperature.

So when arriving at work, I removed the air filter cover, and used my IR thermometer to check the temperature of the valve cover directly underneath the air intake:

45C
He was after reducing this temp for more powah, I'm going the other way

Silicone will just peel off the plastic TBH..

Worst case, I can just replace the grills. I just dont see the cable ties applying the force evenly unless I do lots of them- the slats are vertical so could be difficult to attach

Are you planning to put them on the inside or the outside ?

Had a look at a guy's 323i Coupe parked outside - god its cold It should be OK. The Correx seems pretty strong but maybe some bolts with large washers to spread the load would be OK. When I did it on Helga I made sure the "grain" of the Correx (the tubes) went perpendicular to the grill slats - the slats were vertical, the grain horizontal. That was tricky because it was easier to have the grain vertical too to allow it to flex and follow the curve.

The plastic manufactured Fabia block I had used a neat fastening - the screw at the front went into a threaded hole in a flat piece of metal. The flat piece was bent at right angles to go through the slat and then bent again into a loop to go round the back of the grill. I've tried to draw it

(Actually the bit where the bolt went through was the other way round, creating a single loop rather than an S-shape).

I've tested one zip-tie and I may have to reinforce these, but it is recessed enough to allow me to think about doubling the pieces of correx up. That will also push them out to be flush with the edges of the openings.

They look rather rude when left on a desk though.

EDIT - Updated pic for above

Keeping out splashing water ?
TBH I'm a bit surprised at the shortish Aygo intake.

Maybe, but all bugs are the same. Plus that part won't fit, the washer bottle is in the way

The old Rover P4 (lovely car) has a similar shape and size of intake, albeit two of them
