Come the revolution, it won't matter. A better world is possible.
But if you want something they'll know you've built in your garage, you want the empi sportser - Google Search

To bring it back on-topic, here's a picture I took at Bonneville
They might think this is a VW Thing, but it's all aluminum.

On the salt, the mill-finish aluminum looks right at home. Everything is so bright, camo would stick out like a sore thumb.
One thing leads to another. Here's the page that construction sequence pic came from:
http://http://beachwheels.blogspot.c...sportster.html
They have the plans and instructions for making you own Sportster.
Make mine PolyMetal. With a Schwimmwagen-style spare tire and a Shalako-style windshield. (The icon is broken)

Neatest factoid I've read about those cars is the doors are usable on either side of the car. Just have to make a hole for the handle. Maybe it's even true!

Oh man, that sounds like a lot of work ha ha. If it's still there on Monday I'll take some pics of the doors and we can try and figure it out.
Also, driving home today I saw the mintest Festiva ever going the other way. The good news is I recognized the driver as a transport driver for the auction, so I am guessing it will be waiting there tomorrow. I'll report back with pics, hoperfully it's not an automatic!

Pastel green then? Your pictures are endlessly entertaining. Looking forward to what turns up.
I corrected my post. It was the EMPI Sportster, not the Burro—it's contemporary.
The prospects brighten for electric conversion of old VWs (and a lot of others) when Protean energy ships product next year. The redundant intergrated micro-controllers would be a big deal. I guess I'm all "Ooh-Shiny" about electric aluminum off-road chassis. Because PolyMetal.
MetroMPG -- Based on my experience with my '59 station wagon (kind of a mini-Nomad with the aluminum framed windows) there's little doubt. A single stamping that is re[die]stamped to make lefts and rights. In the '50s (anyway) panels for low-production models like station wagons and convertibles were re-stamped from high-production model parts. Or so I hear.

Blue with factory grey swirly stripes/graphics on the sides actually. My spies tell me it's a '92 with 180k KMs (111k miles). They all went home before it got checked in to the auction though, so no idea if it's a 5 speed or not. It is Unreserved though, meaning it will sell for whatever the highest bid is. Cripes, if it's a 5 speed and no one wants it, I may have to rescue it from the scrap guy. I try to leave, and they keep dragging me back in!! ha ha

Thanks!
As promised, 1992 Festiva with 180k kms (111k miles). You can see the major problem with it in the second picture. But at least it didn't get scrapped, I think it brought in a whopping $400!
