Paul: loved the moth in the contactor. That's awesome.
And congrats on your 1 year anniversary!

If you have an extra pet moth available or something, you could try moth to moth resuscitation to bring that poor little bugger back. He might still be OK.

If the voltage I applied to him didn't kick start his heart back, I don't think he had a chance. In a way, it is the ultimate way for an EV'er to die. Perhaps we can all get together and have a new expression become commonplace: "like moths to a plasma ball" instead of "moths to a flame".....
Something peculiar this morning: my voltage read 79.7v, which is the highest reading I've ever had. It is pretty consistent at 78.1v lately, so I'm worried that one of the batteries is showing some signs of wanting to go out in a blaze of glory. Readings were normal on each battery when I got home though: from 12.45v on the lowest to 12.68v for the highest. What bugs me about that high reading this morning is that it was kind of nippy this morning- about 30 degrees. Last year I was starting to get lower voltages at these temps. It will interesting as the temps drop even more....

I found an electric forklift on Craigslist for $250. It's about 100 miles from me. Any ideas who to call for a freight quote?

Hmm... Call a local forklift sales/service company? They're used to moving them around.
When we got the one for the ForkenSwift, the company suggested a mover & had a special truck: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...2.html#post262
Cost was $125 for delivery, and that was for ~20 km. Most of their time was spent actually loading/unloading from the truck than driving.

Depending on the lift you are buying they generally weigh 6k or less. I used a rollback to get mine home. The cost isn't that bad. Also a heavier car trailer could handle the lift as well. Just be sure it is secured well.

Nothing new to report except that someone attempted to steal (I guess) from my car as the front door was open and all the contents from the glovebox were in the front seat. The connectors on the voltmeter were broken off, I'm not really sure what that was about. I am guessing that it was somehow in the way of the ashtray that contained some toothpicks, so they figured the voltmeter should be ripped out? I thought I lived in a good neighborhood, but this rash of thefts and vandalism is making me seriously doubt that.....

The radio got stolen from my Electro-Metro a while back.
I was at the park for the evening, and when I got back to the car, the radio was gone.
At least the thieves unplugged the radio, rather than cutting the wires. The local police actually DID recover the radio later.... so I just plugged it back in!
My brother in law had his Geo Metro broken into a number of years back. The thief took all the coins in the ashtray, but left the CDs. Guess thieves don't like NINE INCH NAILS. My brother-in-law was offended that the perpetrator didn't share his taste in music.
So, what's the deal with thieves and Metros, especially electric ones!?!?!

I don't know why Metros are such a target, but this is getting crazy! My white one was sideswiped TWICE! The first time, the guy came and gave his insurance info- we ended up friends I'd say: he's the guy I got my orange VW from! Then I got sidewiped AFTER I fixed it up, on Christmas Day no less. Not cool. No note, nothing. Just ripped the relatively new mirror clean off that I isntalled about 6 months ago. Then on New Year's a guy drove up on our lawn and busted up the fender, headlight trim, and smashed the turn signal on my wife's car- green 94 Metro. Police never caught him. Then this. Of course, there's still the 11 or so batteries that were stolen a while back. Then there was the time about a year ago that some guys lifted up the back end of my 93 and let it drop, damaging the rear bumper. I think I could solve all these problems if I had a garage. I have a brand new CD player waiting to get put into one of my cars, but with all the thefts I don't think I can risk it.

Years ago there was a rise in thefts of and from a certain make of cars in the region.
It turned out some juvenile reclassification scheme was teaching starting criminals automechanics on these cars.
They taught themselves some extra knowledge, extra curriculum.
It can really be as silly as that.
