What do we think about this: HONDA IMMOBILIZER BYPASS
Basically, you stick the key with the electronic chip into that device which feeds into the immo, then you can use a copied key to start the ignition. At least that's what they say. Does that sound like it will work in my situation?

For $5, it's worth a shot, I guess. You could always just wire in the other key switch for the immobilizer feature, though, and hide it in the cigarette lighter... (you don't smoke, do you?) so that you still have the immobilizer, and have to use a key to deactivate it, then the original CRX key to start the car.

In most cases, from what I can tell, that "electronic chip" in the key is just a resistor.
Those things are what allowed GM to charge $80 for a key back in the early/mid 90's, because noone knew that they were just resistors, and you could bypass the circuit by soldering one into your ignition switch's wiring of the same value.
You could check that out, as well... if it's just a resistor, you could easily go ahead and just wire in a resistor of the same value to the immobilizer's wiring.

I might just give honda a buzz after the weekend and ask them for advice, . Sometimes manufacturers do have people interested in this stuff and are willing to give away help/ideas just for the good press they get out of it.

Especially since the press they get out of it reaches a broad fuel enthusiasts base.

Just finished up rebuilding axles and trying to whack the engine into position. Not quite in the final spot yet, but I'll update the thread in a bit with some questions and ideas and complaints.

So have you figured out exactly, if anything, you need from Topher Christianson? I've got this upcoming week off from the Philly area madness, so I'm planning on going out to a u-pull yard in Elmira NY (close to where Topher lives). I will be able to pick up anything you may need from him when I do that. Then I can bring the stuff to you on the week of the 14th. I sent you a PM as well to which I await response.

Depending on what day you come to Horseheads Pick-A-Part, I can probably come up and hang out for a bit, as long as my wife doesn't have anything planned. I have to be in Covington for a job interview Tuesday, and I have to go to DPW at some point to scream at them for awhile, then threaten a lawsuit so they'll get their heads out of their asses and look where they're walking.
Anyway, aside from that, especially if I tell her that I'm going to look for parts for her car, she probably won't have much to say about it, as long as I'm home at a decent hour, so lemme know when you're going and I'll try to get something set up.

I need his knuckles, for sure. Other than that, I think I know not. I suppose I can wait until the 14th for the knuckles, since right now I just have the small axles shoved in there like they have no business to be, but at least it works for sizing it up. Also, I would love to give you a place to stay, but since it's my mom's an not mine I don't think accommodation will be met, since she doesn't like to put people up and she'll have just gotten back from 3 weeks of travelling the day before. Sorry!
